Fairuz’s Atini Nay Wa Ghanni: A Dream Sung Live

Fulfilled a Long Dream of Singing Atini Nay Wa Ghanni Live

Shared this in r/Lebanese, thought I should share it here too.

I've been singing since high school. One of the first songs I knew I wanted to sing live one day was Atini Nay Wa Ghanni, it's my favorite song by Fairuz and one of my favorite songs in the world. I finally got my chance this past weekend and wanted to share the performance with people who I know can appreciate it (please be gentle with your criticisms lol). The picture cuts out in the middle of the video, problem with the file itself, but the audio is there all the way through.

Singing this was the most emotional experience in my career as a singer for so many reasons. I feel like I achieved something I've been working towards since I was maybe 19 years old. Apart from how far I've come as a singer, my grandmother also was a terrific singer and I wish she was still alive to hear me now. I also miss Lebanon and worry about its future (as well as that of my family) and how much worse shit will get and how I'm part of the problem simply by living in USA. With all of that in mind, presenting the music of Fairuz and words of Khalil Gibran to an American audience felt like singing Edelweiss. As a member of the Lebanese diaspora I'm always eager to share the culture with people, but it never felt quite like the night I sang this.

Solar Production Data Since April 2022

My solar data since April 2022

I finally figured out how to pull all my solar inverter data into an sqlite database and I made some nice graphs out of them about solar production over time.

https://preview.redd.it/fc447vvhu4kh1.png?width=1227&format=png&auto=webp&s=c9b2fa188112f3ec5df773b10cee530f649a57c1

The system has 12 solar panels 600 watts, the most it ever produces as per this report was was 6680 kwh in August. The caveat is unless we are consuming this much power, the solar panels will not produce that much. So solar production numbers is not just about the weather, it's also about spend(but it is mostly the weather)

Traveling from Lebanon to Georgia with Medication

Traveling from Lebanon with creatine and medication

I’m traveling from Lebanon to Georgia soon and was wondering about the rules for bringing supplements and medication into Georgia.

Can I bring a container of creatine powder in my luggage, or could customs confiscate it?

Also, does anyone have experience bringing regular medication or other supplements into Georgia from Lebanon? Are there any specific restrictions or documents I should be aware of?

Any advice from people who have traveled to Georgia with these kinds of items would be appreciated!

Ehmej Lebanon: Roman Ruins and Mountain History

Ehmej Lebanon

Due to Reddit banning my account, I was unable to post for a couple of days. Apologies for the inconvenience.

Anyways, Ehmej is in the mountains above Jbeil. Its forests, valleys and high elevation made the area useful to people for centuries.

There are remains and archaeological evidence connected with the Roman and Byzantine periods. In particular, Roman roads and inscriptions have been reported in the surrounding forests. Some inscriptions are associated with the reign of Emperor Hadrian. According to the local historical interpretation, these inscriptions indicate that the Roman authorities regulated the use of certain trees and forest resources, showing that the area was considered important.

During the Byzantine period, Christianity became established in the region. Churches and monastic sites were built around the mountains of Ehmej. One important site is associated with St. Saba. Archaeological remains found near the monastery have been dated to the Byzantine period, suggesting that Christian religious activity existed in the area many centuries ago.

So when you see an old church or monastery around Ehmej, it isn't necessarily connected to the modern village community. Some of these sites belong to a much older Christian landscape that existed long before the present-day village took shape.

According to local historical tradition, the present-day community of Ehmej began to take shape in the early 17th century. Families from northern Mount Lebanon particularly associated with the Bsharri region are traditionally said to have settled in Ehmej following political changes around 1612. Over time, additional Christian families settled there and the village expanded.

This is an important distinction:

The land of Ehmej is ancient, but the present-day village community largely took shape in the 17th century.

Why did people settle there?

Ehmej's geography helped protect and sustain a mountain community. It is high in the mountains, surrounded by forests and valleys, while still being connected to Jbeil...

Italy, UK and Others May Verify Hezbollah Disarmament

Italy, UK, Switzerland, Indonesia may participate in pilot zones mechanism

Italy, Britain, Switzerland and Indonesia may participate in a mechanism to verify Hezbollah's disarmament in the so-called pilot zones in south Lebanon, w diplomatic source told Al-Arabiya television.

A Lebanese official had previously confirmed to Reuters that Lebanon and Israel had agreed on a shortlist of countries that could send forces to verify Hezbollah's disarmament under a U.S.-brokered agreement. The U.S. is expected to select the countries from this list.

The official declined to name any of the countries on the shortlist or specify their number. Another Lebanese official and two foreign diplomats had previously told Reuters that Israel and the U.S. had excluded France from the list.

The list was drawn up during meetings held between Lebanon and Israel at the U.S. Embassy in Rome this week, in the latest round of talks on how to implement the June 26 agreement, which links the phased withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanon to the disarmament of Hezbollah, to be "verified" by a third party.

The Lebanese official said Beirut had rejected a previous proposal to have private security companies take over the role of the third party tasked with verifying Hezbollah's disarmament.

Where does Mawal come from?

Reading quite a bit on the history of Eastern Mediterranean music and the origins of mawal are quite interesting. There used to be a strong base of mawal in Iraq but Lebanese singers such as Wadi Safi and Najwa karam have made it popularised by Lebanese artists. What are the origins of this music style and where would it be most associated with?

Seeking Hellenic Polytheist Friends in Lebanon

Hello, I'm looking for friends from my religion

I'm an ex Muslim shia, I "converted" a few months ago into hellenic polytheism, I'm a bit of a beginner but I'm working on it, and I was wondering if anyone in this country also shares the same religion and would like to be friends with me? To share experiences and etc.

For the people who don't know, Hellenic polytheism is the religion of worshiping Greek gods.

And if you want to hate the religion, just don't interact. Thank you!

Also I don't mind if anyone who isn't from that religion wants to be friends with me, I accept and appreciate everyone!!

Shabjdeed x Saint Levant Diss Track Debate

Shabjdeed x Saint Levant drama(if anyone cares lol)

So Shabjdeed released a Saint Levant "diss track" and i've been seeing a lot of hype about it on lebanese instagram, people are loving the SL hate. And listen i'm all for hate with no valid reason lol, because sometimes you just be hating someone for no reason, you just don't like them.

But when you're making a diss track against someone, the points you're mentioning in said track should be kinda valid. And I really don't understand why everyone is clapping.
Never thought I'd say that, but i'm on SL's side here(i'm usually an SL hater lol)

Okay so what Shabjdeed is basically trying to say in this track that Saint Levant has turned Palestinian identity into a marketable global brand. He questions his authenticity, suggesting that his polished image, music, and international success appeal more to Western audiences than to the realities of Palestinian life.
It's all big claims, but for me it's only giving jealous, loser, pick me vibes to be honest.
Saint Levant never claimed or portrayed himself as the representative of palestinian artists lol, nor was he ever that passionate in public about the cause, like he never made it the center of the art he makes, he never made it the center stage, for it to feel like he's taking advantage of the palestinian cause to gain fame. He doesn't owe it to anyone to make all of his content about Palestine and the struggles Palestinians face.

He's just a successful artist, who's getting a lot of fame lately, and who's living a lifestyle similar to the lifestyle of any other successful artist, and he just happens to have palestinian roots. He talks about palestine here and there, brings attention to the cause, wears the koufiyye in some of his concerts, he's basically just saying that he's pro-palestine and he cares about what's happening. And to me, that's completely enough.

Saint Levant could've gone in two other ways, yet he would've still gotten the same criticism:

  • Making palestine his center focus, making so many songs about it, making his online presen...

What do you guys think about the "Hezbollah in south America" narrative?

I often hear it mentioned by the west, say by trump for example, but we pretty much never hear it brought up domestically, even Hezbollah's Lebanese political opposition never brings it up as far as I'm aware. So what is it? Is it pure propaganda? Is it a different organization that carries the same name? Or is it actually a detachment of the Lebanese Hezbollah that we never bring up for some reason?

Hezbollah’s Network in Brazil: Key Findings

Inside Hezbollah’s Network in Brazil

Key Points

Brazil's Federal Police launched Operation Hawala in July, arresting ten individuals and indicting twelve others for laundering nearly twenty million dollars for major crime syndicates.

Hezbollah has maintained a permanent regional representative in Brazil for almost thirty years, with successive clerics based in São Paulo presiding over a community with strong ties to the organization.

The Mesquita do Bras mosque and its affiliated institutions serve as a hub for Hezbollah activities including youth indoctrination, fundraising, soft power outreach, and community members with direct family connections to Hezbollah fighters.

Brazil has not designated Hezbollah as a terrorist organization, limiting law enforcement's ability to disrupt terror networks despite documented cases of terror plots and financing schemes linked to the group.

———

The first known Hezbollah cleric to permanently reside in Brazil was the late Sheikh Ali Abou Raya, who served as Imam of the Mohamad Messenger of God Mosque, popularly known as Mesquita do Bras, after the São Paulo neighborhood where it is located. Abou Raya worked for Hezbollah’s Foreign Relations Department (FRD), and also served in Canada and Belgium, before and after his time in Brazil. His affiliation with Hezbollah emerged after he was killed in an Israeli strike in Southern Lebanon on September 23, 2024, alongside other Hezbollah clerics.

His successor, Sheikh Bilal Mohsen Wehbe, was another member of Hezbollah’s FRD. In 2010, the U.S. Department of Treasury named Wehbe as “Hizballah’s chief representative in South America” and sanctioned him. Those sanctions, however, had little visible impact in Brazil. Wehbe continued to openly lead his community until 2019, when he returned to Lebanon.

Wehbe’s successor and current place holder, Sheikh Badri Abdul Menhem Mouawia, also known as Sheikh Badri Zeineddine, is also a Hezbollah cleric. According to leaked files accessed through the risk intelligence platform, 240 Analytics (for which the author serves ...

How Lebanese Muslims Embraced a Shared Identity

How did Muslims accept a Lebanese identity?

I know this is controversial, but i will ask anyway.

Reading the history of Lebanon, it seems that the idea behind the creation of the state was to have a country for the Levantine Christians, and Druze to some extent.

The territories added in 1919/20 were just so this Christian state would have more territory.

So, how did Lebanese Muslims, who mostly lived in those added areas of Greater Lebanon, developed a sense of belonging to Lebanon?

I am asking because i am aware of a somewhat similar situation. I come from the Balkans, and Bosnia and Herzegovina also has a mixed population. Serbs (Orthodox), Croats (Catholics) and Bosniaks (Muslims).

Croats and Serbs almost totally reject the idea of a shared Bosnian nation, often don't want to be called Bosnian. The first thing Bosnian Serbs did in the war in the 1990s was to scrap all parts of city names that included "Bosnian", you might face problems if you go to a lot of majority-Serb or majority-Croat cities with a Bosnian football jersey. Despite Bosnian going all the way back as an independent state to the medieval eras, they reject the idea of having anything to do with Bosnia because they perceive it as a Muslim project and idea (Bosnian sovereignty and state) to have their state beside the Catholic Croatia and Orthodox Serbia. This is rooted in the fact that it was mostly politicians of Bosniak ethnicity who always were behind protecting the status of Bosnia as a separate entity in almost all states it was part of, for example.

So, how this process didn't went that way for Lebanese Muslims, how don't for example Sunnis or Shias in Lebanon don't advocate for their own states or annexation to other countries (for example Sunni areas becoming a part of the majority-Sunni Syria).

If you could be self-employed/have your own business/company, what would you do/what would it be?

I'm curious tbh

For me, I love cooking, so in a very ideal world I'd love to have a page or something where I'm known to teach people how to cook at home a bunch of things, from healthy meals (cliche I know) to meals we normally overpay in restaurants but taste much better at home and cost way way less (For example: 5L of whole cow milk costs 600,00LBP and can make approximately 2.5Kg of low to almost no fat, greek yogurt)

Lebanon Debate: Sehnaoui, Netanyahu and Public Silence

We need to talk about Antoun Sehnaoui

I've tried to avoid this while looking at this subreddit discuss Spiderman for too long and the silence has been deafening.

This subreddit has been correctly up in arms about anytime an influencial figure has done something we disagree with, but when a major political player has dinner with FUCKING BIBI NETANYAHU no one is brave to say anything? Are you fucking kidding me? Regardless of how much we all blame hezb for the current situation we're ok with pretending like this isn't going on?

Can we please stop with the random villages that are clearly the prettiest villages rather that the most random villages instead of talking about one of the most influential figures in our country having dinner and suckling up to the man who is responsible for irreparable death and destruction in our country?
