What does the facepalm emoji mean?

The ultimate expression of pure, unadulterated disappointment.

This is the legendary 'Picard Facepalm' meme, featuring Captain Jean-Luc Picard from Star Trek: The Next Generation. It is the gold standard for reacting to someone's incredibly foolish statement, a bad take, or a situation that is simply too frustrating to address with words.

When to use it

  • Reacting to a truly terrible take
  • Expressing frustration at a silly mistake
  • Showing disbelief at someone's blatant ignorance
  • Responding to a painfully obvious question
