clap (Animated)
What does the clap emoji mean?
A classic, slightly sarcastic slow-clap for when someone really outdoes themselves.
This emoji features a sepia-toned, sculptural representation of hands clapping, reminiscent of Albrecht Dürer's famous 'Praying Hands' sketch repurposed for internet irony. In Discord and Slack, it is frequently used to deliver a sarcastic or mocking round of applause after a questionable take, a bad joke, or a spectacularly failed attempt at something.
When to use it
- Mocking someone for a truly terrible take
- Celebrating a friend's hilariously bad life decision
- Giving a sarcastic round of applause online
- Highlighting a moment of pure comedic failure
