What does the nerd emoji mean?

The ultimate symbol for dropping unsolicited facts or correcting someone with peak intellectual energy.

The Nerd Face emoji is a staple of internet culture, used to represent intelligence, geekiness, or, more commonly, to mock someone for being pedantic. In Discord and Slack, it is frequently deployed as a sarcastic retort when a user provides an overly technical explanation or tries to 'well, actually' a conversation. It has become a quintessential meme for signaling that someone is taking a topic way too seriously.

When to use it

  • Mocking someone for being overly pedantic
  • Sharing an unsolicited fun fact in chat
  • Highlighting a nerdy or technical correction
