What does the thonk emoji mean?

The quintessential internet reaction for when you are deep in thought or questioning reality.

The Thonk emoji is a classic internet staple derived from the 'Thinking' face, often used to convey skepticism, confusion, or mock intellectualism. It is a cornerstone of Discord and Slack culture, frequently deployed to respond to questionable takes, confusing statements, or to signal that the user is 'thinking' about a reply. Its distorted, hand-drawn aesthetic makes it a humorous alternative to the standard platform-native thinking emojis.

When to use it

  • Questioning a friend's questionable life choices
  • Expressing deep confusion during a conversation
  • Mocking someone for saying something silly
  • Signaling that you are pondering a response
