Lebanese Chess Champions Barred from Arab Championship

Morocco bans Lebanese chess champions from participating in the Arab Championship

Morocco banned 10 of Lebanon’s chess champions in the children’s category from participating in the Arab Championship held there, after the state refused to grant them travel visas. Authorities stated that “the family knows the reason”
I contacted the family of two of the players, who stated that the visa refusals were due to the children's Shia affiliation — a circumstance reportedly shared by the other eight affected players

Lebanon’s Crisis and a Sudden Turn to Religion

Did any of your friends become more religious after what the country passed throught (infaltion, war etc)?

I have a friend who ever since the inflation started getting worse and worse he became super religious.

The thing is he wasn't like that before he couldn't care less about religion. He wasn't the amzing atheist type of person who would annoy you by trying to appear supreme he litteraly just didn't care he just used to study go out and just do normal stuff.

Ever since the inflation started he got into religion since he had nothing to do (uni was expensive for him and he had to work at low wage just to have a bit of money for himself for uni). He started going to chuch praying etc all normal i guess (he is orthodox btw).

Nothing wrong with that but the thing is now he just says stuff that are batshit crazy. He told me once how a priest on Mt athos had a buddist monk who was a kid teleport to him and the priest defeated him with cross and that the kid was possesed by the devil due to him doing yoga and practicing buddism. I thaught he was joking but he was very serious.

MEA Low-Cost Airline Launches in March 2027

MEA goes low cost: Launch set for March 2027

Cheaper fares, tighter seats and, most likely, coffee that isn’t free: MEA is set to reinvent itself with the launch of its own low-cost airline in March 2027. Targeting budget-conscious travelers while preserving the signature warmth of Lebanese service, this bold move could shake up Middle Eastern skies. Between good deals and small trade-offs, MEA is embarking on a strategic shift that may well propel Lebanon’s entire aviation sector.

Facing soaring fares and near-monopoly on direct routes, Lebanon’s national carrier Middle East Airlines (MEA) is preparing to shake up the market. Led by Chairman Mohamad El Hout, MEA plans to launch a low-cost subsidiary in March 2027, according to insiders. The new airline will start with 4 aircraft and offer tickets up to 30% cheaper than current MEA fares.

This bold move marks a major strategic shift as MEA responds to rising regional competition and growing demand for affordable air travel.

The low-cost carrier will operate a fleet of narrow-body Airbus jets, with new A320neo and A321XLR models expected to be delivered in 2026. MEA has ordered 9 aircraft, including 4 A321XLRs, and aims to gradually expand to destinations such as Germany, Denmark, Egypt and several African countries. The focus will be on short- and medium-haul routes, perfectly suited for the low-cost business model.

A Brand-New Terminal for a Smooth Takeoff

To support this strategic shift, the new low-cost airline will be based in Terminal 2 of Beirut’s Rafic Hariri international airport, currently under development. This terminal will double the airport’s capacity, which is presently oversaturated, enabling more frequent, shorter and most importantly, more affordable flights.

The benefits are significant: fares up to 30% lower, greater accessibility for students, families and expatriates, and a strong boost for Lebanon’s tourism sector. With both MEA’s traditional and budget-friendly options available, passengers will finally have the freedom to choose flights that fit their budgets.

MEA’s “à la ...

Lebanon Tabouleh, Jnoub Moonlight & Community Life

Khalas That's it! Never eating tabouleh outside Lebanon again!

So I'm currently on a vacation in Greece, coming from the cold Denmark where tomatoes and parsley has no flavor, I was somewhat excited to try out a Greek version of tabouleh. Oh how naive I was. From now on I will only eat tabouleh in Lebanon. Just waiting for the wade3 to become better (if that will ever happen)

As the hospitality landscape increasingly demands a social agenda of pre-planning, pre-booking, and sometimes even pre-ordering, the appeal of a members’ club – with its certainty and guaranteed access allowing good old-fashioned spontaneity – has never been stronger. The latest crop of such clubs isn’t limited to a specific location; recent standouts include the art deco-infused The Wilde in Milan (recipient of a Wallpaper* Design Award 2025) and the ultra-luxe Core Club in New York. Now, a more unexpected location taps into the trend: Beirut’s Gemmayzeh.

Once an affluent cultural hub, the neighbourhood was among the hardest hit by Beirut’s 2020 port explosion. It’s here that Beihouse, a new members’ club, has taken root. The initiative began as an effort to save three 19th-century Lebanese houses and their shared courtyard from demolition. Lebanese architecture studio Dagher Hanna & Partners, in collaboration with London-based designer Linda Boronkay (former design director of Soho House), set out to restore the property and revive some of the conviviality and activity that once defined the area.

‘We aspired to create a place that would once again become the beating heart of communal gatherings,’ says Boronkay, ‘a sanctuary of solace in a city that deserves to hope and celebrate.’ The gates of Beiphone open onto a picturesque courtyard shaded by a centuries-old olive tree, which leads to The Garden Bar, where a green marble count...

lebanon in eurovision

Why isn't lebanon in Eurovision? After all, it gave the world Fairouz, the Rahbani brothers, Julia Boutros, and many others. It's also in the Euro broadcasting region so it's technically able to compete. You could bring up the wars etc but hey Ukraine's been competing with great success.

Lebanon’s “Once-in-a-Lifetime Chance” and Hezbollah’s Role

I think the "chance" lebanon was given has expired

Ever since the ceasefire deal, there's been a lot of talk about a "once in a lifetime chance" being given to lebanon, Trump mentioned in his visit to saudi saying that lebanon has a chance that might never come again. There was also leaks of a date being set by USA for the leb gov to disarm hezb which was mid june, and the president was trying to negotiate the date for September so that it doesnt impact tourism in the summer, those leaks were mentioned by both moumena3a and anti momena3a journalists.

I dont think the date set by the US was a random one, and looking back on it now i think it makes sense with what is going on right now and what is yet to come and i believe this was the "chance" that was talked about.

Hezb weapons arent just rockets and drones, it's a "position", an answer to the question "which side are u gonna be on in case of a US-Iran war?", it makes the gov position on the matter irrelevant regardless of what they say because simply a gov that doesnt have exclusivity of weapons doesnt have the exclusivity of decision. And with hezb's "situation" it makes it even worse...let's be real if the lebanese gov said dont attack israel or blow US embassies and khamenei issues a fatwa to seek revenge against "the great devil", who do u think hezb will listen to?

So atm, the response to the above question is that we're still on the iranian side bcz hezb can still decide to start a war and the gov still cant and wont stop them from doing so.

The war in iran isn't gonna end anytime soon by the looks of it, evrything suggests that they've reached a dead end in the negotiation. Iran is not gonna give away their nuclear project which they have been working on for the past 50 years and israel/US are not gonna call it a day and return to pre oct 7. Just look at the events of the last 2 years, hamas hit, houthis hit, hezb hit, assad removed...all these were done to get to iran, israel couldn't fly comfortably over syria if assad's air defenses were still in place and they couldnt hit iran comfortably with...

Muslims and Christians in Lebanon: Culture & Daily Life

Difference between muslims and christians in Lebanon

I am moroccan and was wondering how is the situation in lebanon since it is a mixed religion country. Our country is muslim and it is just horrible, people here are zombies who think if we had ' real islam' we ll be advanced, and any critique of religion is deemed a zionist conspiracy. the only reason we are not like afganistan is because France is next to us and it wants no zoo besides it.
how is the situation in lebanon, do muslims not think they are the center of the world because there are many christians, how does women issues compare in both religions? is abortion legal? is virginity important? can you eat outsidd in ramadan? do the ppl from both religions mix? i also know literacy rate in lebanon is 95% and in morocco is 75% so that plays a huge part too.

Fairuz’s Bird of Sorrow and Its Lebanese Story

TIL: Fairuz’ song “عصفورة الشجن-bird of sorrow” was an ode to Lebanese Shia cleric Ali Badr El-Din who was killed by the Iraqi Baathist Party.

Ali Muhammad Jawad Badr al-Din (1949 - 1980) was a Lebanese Shiite cleric. He studied in Najaf, and Fairuz sang a poem for him without mentioning his name, at his request. His body was found with gunshot wounds and signs of torture.

The Sayyid for whom Fairuz sang
In early November 1980, the body of a thirty-year-old cleric was found in one of the valleys in southern Lebanon, having been pierced by several fatal bullets, and showing signs of brutal torture. The young slain sheikh was quickly identified. He was Sayyid Ali Badr al-Din, the imam of the town of Harouf in the Nabatieh district, who had disappeared while on his way to the mosque a few days before his body was discovered.

It was said that he met Composer and Husband of Fairuz Assi Rahbani in the late 1960s and he sold him the lyrics of bird of sorrow from a poem he wrote for 35 Lebanese Liras and a pack of cigarettes. Badr El-Din was known for his poetic talent and his passion for the Lebanese “Zajal”. He was also an outspoken opposer of Saddam Hussein’s regime, which eventually led to his brutal death.
