lebanon in eurovision

Why isn't lebanon in Eurovision? After all, it gave the world Fairouz, the Rahbani brothers, Julia Boutros, and many others. It's also in the Euro broadcasting region so it's technically able to compete. You could bring up the wars etc but hey Ukraine's been competing with great success.

Sincerely,

Lebanon’s “Once-in-a-Lifetime Chance” and Hezbollah’s Role

I think the "chance" lebanon was given has expired

Ever since the ceasefire deal, there's been a lot of talk about a "once in a lifetime chance" being given to lebanon, Trump mentioned in his visit to saudi saying that lebanon has a chance that might never come again. There was also leaks of a date being set by USA for the leb gov to disarm hezb which was mid june, and the president was trying to negotiate the date for September so that it doesnt impact tourism in the summer, those leaks were mentioned by both moumena3a and anti momena3a journalists.

I dont think the date set by the US was a random one, and looking back on it now i think it makes sense with what is going on right now and what is yet to come and i believe this was the "chance" that was talked about.

Hezb weapons arent just rockets and drones, it's a "position", an answer to the question "which side are u gonna be on in case of a US-Iran war?", it makes the gov position on the matter irrelevant regardless of what they say because simply a gov that doesnt have exclusivity of weapons doesnt have the exclusivity of decision. And with hezb's "situation" it makes it even worse...let's be real if the lebanese gov said dont attack israel or blow US embassies and khamenei issues a fatwa to seek revenge against "the great devil", who do u think hezb will listen to?

So atm, the response to the above question is that we're still on the iranian side bcz hezb can still decide to start a war and the gov still cant and wont stop them from doing so.

The war in iran isn't gonna end anytime soon by the looks of it, evrything suggests that they've reached a dead end in the negotiation. Iran is not gonna give away their nuclear project which they have been working on for the past 50 years and israel/US are not gonna call it a day and return to pre oct 7. Just look at the events of the last 2 years, hamas hit, houthis hit, hezb hit, assad removed...all these were done to get to iran, israel couldn't fly comfortably over syria if assad's air defenses were still in place and they couldnt hit iran comfortably with...

Is Lebanon Safe to Visit? Travel Advice for Tourists

An Egyptian who has Lebanon on his bucketlist

Hi guys
I am an Egyptian who really adores Lebanon,it's art, culture, food and people who worships fayruz and Elias Rahbani
For a long time I have been hoping to visit Lebanon; working on visiting it maybe by the end of this year if we r not dead by then due to the possible ww3 😂
I'd like to inquire if there is any considerably safe part in Lebanon, for a long time I had the dream trip in mind to visit Beirut,Byblos,Baalbek,Sidon and Tyre
Unfortunately from the news not all of these cities r away from the war zone but is it possible to visit anywhere in Lebanon, do u still get tourists despite what is going on in our region

Muslims and Christians in Lebanon: Culture & Daily Life

Difference between muslims and christians in Lebanon

I am moroccan and was wondering how is the situation in lebanon since it is a mixed religion country. Our country is muslim and it is just horrible, people here are zombies who think if we had ' real islam' we ll be advanced, and any critique of religion is deemed a zionist conspiracy. the only reason we are not like afganistan is because France is next to us and it wants no zoo besides it.
how is the situation in lebanon, do muslims not think they are the center of the world because there are many christians, how does women issues compare in both religions? is abortion legal? is virginity important? can you eat outsidd in ramadan? do the ppl from both religions mix? i also know literacy rate in lebanon is 95% and in morocco is 75% so that plays a huge part too.

Fairuz’s Bird of Sorrow and Its Lebanese Story

TIL: Fairuz’ song “عصفورة الشجن-bird of sorrow” was an ode to Lebanese Shia cleric Ali Badr El-Din who was killed by the Iraqi Baathist Party.

Ali Muhammad Jawad Badr al-Din (1949 - 1980) was a Lebanese Shiite cleric. He studied in Najaf, and Fairuz sang a poem for him without mentioning his name, at his request. His body was found with gunshot wounds and signs of torture.

The Sayyid for whom Fairuz sang
In early November 1980, the body of a thirty-year-old cleric was found in one of the valleys in southern Lebanon, having been pierced by several fatal bullets, and showing signs of brutal torture. The young slain sheikh was quickly identified. He was Sayyid Ali Badr al-Din, the imam of the town of Harouf in the Nabatieh district, who had disappeared while on his way to the mosque a few days before his body was discovered.

It was said that he met Composer and Husband of Fairuz Assi Rahbani in the late 1960s and he sold him the lyrics of bird of sorrow from a poem he wrote for 35 Lebanese Liras and a pack of cigarettes. Badr El-Din was known for his poetic talent and his passion for the Lebanese “Zajal”. He was also an outspoken opposer of Saddam Hussein’s regime, which eventually led to his brutal death.

ShareTheMeal: Help Provide Meals in Lebanon

Share The Meal

Not sure how many of you have heard of an app called "ShareTheMeal" it’s a project by the UN, under their World Food Programme.

The idea is simple, you can donate to different causes or goals, and every donation helps provide meals to those in need.

It starts from just USD $0.80 per meal (less than a cup of coffee), so for around USD$4.80, you can provide six meals for a family or people in need.

I used to donate to various programs, but I’ve focused more on Lebanon ever since it was added after the last war.

Also, when you create an account, the app shows your personal impact (shown in the first photo) how many meals you’ve donated, how many goals you’ve supported, and the countries you’ve helped.

Therefore, if you could afford to spend USD$0.80 for at least one meal, know that you've helped someone in need.

Habib Foundation Scholarship Interview Tips

Has anyone done an interview with the Alexis & Anne-Marie Habib Foundation for a scholarship?

Hi everyone!
I’ve been invited for an interview at the Alexis & Anne-Marie Habib Foundation (Lebanon) for a potential scholarship. I would really appreciate if anyone who went through the process can share:

  • what types of questions they asked,
  • how the interview felt (formal/casual),
  • anything you recommend preparing,
  • what the foundation might value in a candidate.

Thanks so much in advance!

Lebanese Atheists: Do You Feel Less Lebanese?

Lebanese Atheists: Do you feel less Lebanese?

Lately I have been thinking about something personal and kind of heavy and I wanted to hear from other Lebanese.

For those of you who identify as atheists (or agnostic) do you ever feel like you’re somehow “less Lebanese” because of it?

Iam not talking about politics or sectarian labels. I mean the day to day stuff:

Not going to church on Sunday or to the mosque with your family, not fasting, not celebrating religious holidays the traditional way, not engaging in the rituals that are so tied into our culture. Not believing in saints, 2eddis Charbel, or pilgrimage.
Not decorating your house with icons or photos of divines and saints. Not doing the typical holiday rituals or big religious gatherings.

Sometimes it feels like all those things are part of being Lebanese. And when you don’t participate, you start to feel like you’re watching from the outside looking in.

Upon arriving in Beirut, he stated that Iran hopes ‘to open a new page with Lebanon.’ During his visit, he praised Sayyid Hassan Nasrallah, stating that his death would ‘lead to an increase in the strength of the Islamic resistance, because the resistance is very much alive, and so is Sayyid Nasrallah.’ He met with Hezbollah officials, and Hezbollah MP Ali Ammar thanked him for ‘Iran’s continued support to Lebanon, in all fields.’

Lebanon News Roundup: Iraq Visit and U.S. Policy

News Roundup - 06/01/25

  • Reports suggesting that Deputy U.S Special Envoy to the Middle East, Morgan Ortagus, may leave her position circulated. She is expected to be transferred to another role within the Trump administration, and her replacement will be announced later this week. Al-Jadeed confirmed that these reports are likely accurate, and emphasized that this move is not expected to cause a major shift in U.S policy towards Lebanon.
