NASA's Curiosity rover has captured rare, "mother-of-pearl", iridescent clouds on Mars, as announced in early 2025.
These high-altitude (60-80 km) twilight clouds, composed of frozen carbon dioxide (dry ice), display vivid red-green hues due to sunlight scattering.
They allow researchers to understand how carbon dioxide freezes into ice at altitudes where it wasn't expected.
