Wickivy: Discord Age Verification Security Alert

IMPORTANT SECURITY ANNOUNCEMENT
- # Share this with a friend to keep them in the loop!

Hey, @โ€‹everyone. This security update concerns Discord's latest feature, age-verification. If you weren't aware, Discord is now requiring id/face scan using AI from a third party provider to access age-gated servers and channels.

This is, unfortunately, a perfect breeding ground for hackers and scammers as most people are still unsure how this all works and what to expect, as seen by the average user reaction since the official post by Discord has been released.

Over the past days there are has been a lot of fake, whether harmless pranks or legitimately malicious, messages that claim to require age-verification to access. These messages would include a "Learn more" or "Verify now" type button or hyperlink that would redirect you to another link. Never interact with these posts and report them to Discord and a moderator if you're unsure of their destination.

Note that age verification will never:
- ask you to verify within messages
- block or prevent you from seeing messages or user profiles
- limit your access to how you currently use Discord (unless under 13 of age)
- send you messages outside of the OFFICIAL @discord direct messages thread

Age verification will only change the access prompt when visiting age-gated servers and channels with a verification requirement in replacement of the standard "This channel contains adult content marked as age-restricted. Do you wish to proceed" warning.

How to stay safe:

  • Never interact with these posts and report them to Discord and a moderator if you're unsure of their destination.
  • Block users who send these types of messages. While this is not confirmed or proven, its highly likely that users sending these messages will be from hacked accounts moving forward.

If you are a knowledgeable server staff or a developer and want to confirm the legitimacy of the link for yourself, follow the steps below. Remember to not put yourself or your account in unnecessary danger and only proceed if you know what you are doing, else refer to the previous bullet points.

If you have a Desktop device, you can safely verify the destination by hovering the hyperlink which should display the true URL. Here is an example of a fake hyperlink that looks legit. Try hovering it! www.youtube.com

For buttons, you can check the destination by right clicking it then selecting "Copy link". The copied link will then be accessible within your clipboard for you to check. It is very important to delete the link, if deemed malicious, from your clipboard immediately after to prevent accidently pasting it somewhere else. If you are uncertain about copying or if you're on a Mobile device, refer to the previous bullet points.
