Evolution vs Religion: Community Discussion

Summary

Aspiring Robloxians of Knowledge (ARK) hosts a thread exploring how evolution and religion can coexist in a community. The announcement clarifies the scientific meaning of theory, cites germ theory as an accepted example, and offers evidence like bacterial resistance and human skin adaptation to sunlight to inform discussion.

How can one live with these two co-existing in a community?

I do agree about some of your points regarding one being a fact and other a belief and that it only challenges your faith, though, I don't think I can agree with the fact that evolution is only a "theory" and therefore has not yet been proven with enough evidence. In fact, there had been LOTS of evidences for evolution as a scientific theory.

Before I give the evidences, we must first acknowledge that theory in the scientific sense can mean " a formal set of ideas that is intended to explain why something happens or exists" according to Oxford dictionary. Theory in the layman definition as "something that has not yet been proven and remains a hypothesis" is more of a day-to-day definition, like saying "I have a theory that my gf cheated on me because she no longer responds to me anymore", and should NOT be confused with the scientific definition of the latter. Also, there had been numerous theories that we still largely accept as a fact to this day, such as the Germ theory which states that some germs can be harmful to humans. It is called a theory for the reason it acts as an explanation with proven facts to why humans get sick from germs. Since it has the word "theory" on it, does it mean it's unproven and remains a hypothesis? No, because it's not a hypothesis but an explanation. We take the germ theory as a fact that we even sell anti-germ products, and most importantly wash our hands.

Now, getting back to evolution, the definition of the latter is when populations of individuals evolve to have new traits through genetic mutations. These genetic mutations are purely random and can happen before the individual is born. Are bacteria (which are alive by the way) that mutated against our antibodies sign of evolution? Freaking yes. Are humans evolving to have darker bodies in the hottest regions against sun radiation evidence of evolution? Yes.

It has been proven numerous times such as: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E._coli_long-term_evolution_experiment
