Summary

CommunityOne Builders Help shares feedback proposing a quality-first revision to the Hype Engine. The announcement urges disconnecting or revising the partner program link, adding a toggle for daily quests, and defining hype by event participation, stage attendance, forum star reactions, forum post contributions, and server review submissions to better reflect real community engagement.

This is personal feedback regarding the hype engine from a server owner who values community quality over activity metrics

Hype engine isn't doing exactly what it is called
The hype engine is a way to farm engagement which doesn't provide any actual hype to the community
I know Community.one supports quality servers and its their priority
But hype engine doesn't align with this
An engagement farming tool is not a quality server
Complete quest for reward is a great idea but only if we utilize it in a way that matches our needs

The intent is to keep servers active but the hype engine currently rewards quantity of messages over quality of engagement

If i don't like the hype engine i could just stop using it but we can't use other features like the partner program because of it
So what i suggest is to disconnect the partner program from the hype engine or revise the hype engine or use server insights with the partner program if the goal is engagement based partnership and not quality

What changes would make the hype engine actually reflect community quality

  • Hype should be based on how many members participate in events
  • Hype should be based on how many members participate in a stage
  • Hype should be based on how many members react with โญ๏ธ on forums to push it to the starboard to bump real work
  • Hype should be based on forum content post's count which are contributed by their members
  • Hype should be based on submission count of server reviews

Add a toggle button for the daily quest feature

One thing i personally liked about the hype engine is that our social media feed can be featured on discord and members can engage with social media pages to complete the quest
Many discord communities do put effort on other social media to hype the community too

This is the hype that the hype engine should create
Consistent participation of members in events is called hype
Consistent participation of members in stage is called hype
Consistent engagement with quality content in forums is called hype
Bumping quality content to starboard is hype
Members create hype for the community with real engagement

A server with consistent event participation and quality forum content should qualify for partnership regardless of chat volume
Gating partnership eligibility behind chat activity alone disadvantages quality servers unfairly

As i said you can toggle existing features
Hype engine does really have potential and is helpful for new communities
What im asking is to add some features for quality servers too and make current features flexible so we can disable or enable them as per need
A fully automated engine is a very good idea but the engine should also have a solid one time configuration too

The hype engine has two real use cases that should both be supported
For smaller communities it works well as an engagement generator to build initial activity
For established quality communities it should function as an engagement measurement tool that reflects actual participation in events stages and forums
Both are valid and both deserve to be served
