We will look at why some Christians feel dry or distant from God.
Okay, we're looking at right now how to be healthy and how to be healed basically spiritually and this connects on how to guard your heart and we're looking at Jeremiah 14, 19 where it says, Has thou utterly rejected Judah? Hath thy soul loathed Zion? Hast thou smitten us, and there is no healing for us? We looked for peace, and there is no good. And for the time of healing, and behold, trouble. This is with some context. This is where God talks to Jeremiah that the prophets prophesy lies. Here in the beginning, Jeremiah 14, 13 says, Then said I, Ah, Lord, I am sorry. Lord God, behold, the prophets say unto them, Ye shall see the sword. You shall not see the sword, neither shall ye have famine, but I will give you assurance, peace in this place. Then the Lord said unto me, The prophets prophesy lies in my name. I send them not, neither have I commanded them, neither speak unto them. They prophesy unto you of false visions and divinations. And a thing of naught, and the deceit of their heart. And if we go down to Jeremiah 14, 18, after this context, we read this. If I go forth into the field, then behold the slain with the sword. And if I enter into the city, then behold them that are sick with famine. YeahTest, test, test. Test, test, test, test, test. , both the prophets and the priests go about into the land. Now the sickness is the result of their wickedness poured upon them, which we see in Jeremiah 14, 16. And the people to whom they prophesy shall be cast out in the streets of Jerusalem because of the famine and the sword, and they shall have none to bury them, then their wives, nor their sons, nor their daughters, for I will pour out their wickedness upon them. So we see sickness with famine. Now, normally a famine is not a biological disease. It's actually an event. But since there is famine, there is lack of nutrients. And lack of nutrients means a weaker immune system, and therefore you get sick. That's how you die. But also, if you look at it, that's the physical context. What about the spiritual context? Well... Sickness normally indicates sinfulness, when your heart is sick with sin, and there is only one healer, which is Jesus. And famine represents the absence of food, and the spiritual meaning of food is the word of the Lord. Because Jesus, literally in Matthew, said that the word of God is more desirable than bread. So, if you're sick with famine, look at it in this way. When you're in wickedness and doing sin, darkness gets more and more in your heart. Now darkness though, it's the result of the absence of the light. What is the light? Jesus is the light. Basically you have the absence of the light which is also a kind of famine. So when you are backsliding, when you are willingly sinning without repentance, then the light gets dimmer and dimmer and you enter into this famine and so you get a famine. The Old Testament famine was actual physical famine but now in the New Testament the famine is spiritual and you then starve of God's Word and then after you have been gone so far from the light you feel you'll feel desperate you'll feel like you miss that peace that comfort you had with the light because see the light it reveals stuff to you like when you we have a flashlight you can see stuff in distance, close, because there's light there, right.
