Character Guidelines
I. Character Selection and Swaps
Your selected character represents you within the universe we are building. Members are, therefore, expected to select a character they genuinely connect with, whether that character is an Iconic or Original Character. Frequent character changes can negatively impact continuity and disrupt ongoing roleplays; members should therefore give careful consideration to their character selection before requesting a change.
Character swaps are subjected to the following requirements:
1. Members are limited to one character swap per calendar quarter. The quarters are defined as follows:
- Quarter 1: January -> March
- Quarter 2: April -> June
- Quarter 3: July -> September
- Quarter 4: October -> December
2. All character swaps must be submitted using the designated Character Swap/Switch Form and submitted through the (ticket-submissions channel link).
3. Character swaps require approval from or . Approval will be indicated by the appropriate reaction or emote being placed on the submitted swap request.
4. Members may not begin using a replacement character until the requested swap has been officially approved.
5. Character switching locks become effective one you have created your database and it has been approved by a the and Teams.
6. The Team and team reserve the right to deny a character swap when necessary to preserve roleplay continuity, prevent disruption, or maintain league balance.
II. Character Claims and Additional Iconics
Each roleplay may claim up to two Iconic Characters for active roleplay. These may be used alongside a primary character, whether that primary character is an Iconic or Original Character. There is no limit to the number of OCs a member may create or maintain, provided they meet the applicable approval requirements.
The following requirements and restrictions apply:
1. Character Approval Requirement
Members must have at least one character with an Approved Database stamp before claiming an additional character. This requirement applies to both Iconic and Original characters.
2. Activity Requirement for Secondary Iconics
A claimed secondary Iconic must be used in roleplay within four weeks of being claimed and must remain involved in an active storyline. If the character has not been used within this period, and another member wishes to claim the character, the original claim may be relinquished and the character made available to the other member.
3. Non-Canon Roleplay
The character-claim restrictions outlined in this rule do not apply to non-canon roleplay.
4. Duplicate Characters and Powers
Members may not claim two characters from the same team, family, closely related group, or when those characters possess substantially similar or identical powers, abilities or roles. Members may also not claim characters who serve as direct counterparts of one another from different comic universes, such as Green Arrow and Hawkeye, Batman and Nighthawk, Superman and Omni-Man, etc.
5. Plot Devices and Cameos
Iconic characters may be used sparingly for plot devices, exposition, cameos, or other limited narrative purposes without requiring a full character database or foral character claim. Such appearances must not constitute regular or sustained roleplay as that character.
