Bot Channel Rules Clarified

Summary

On CommunityOne Builders Help we clarify that the bot's configured-channel setting lets it reply to every message without an @mention. The announcement explains why replies appear across channels, how to restrict the bot by removing Send Messages permission, and that a future update may add exclusive-channel options.

Channel Rules are being ignored. I configured it to one-specific channel, but it is posting in any channel.

did someone mention it in the other channels? Or was it answering out of nowhere?

sharpquartz-72

If you got a screenshot that would help!

azurearcher-80 OP

It was being mentioned.

azurearcher-80 OP

It was being mentioned, but I thought the feature as above meant that it would be exclusive to that channel.

sharpquartz-72

I see the misunderstanding. Here the bot is configured to answer every message, this means that the bot will answer to every message even if you don't @mention it.

sharpquartz-72

We will try to make this clearer in a future update. We are also considering adding an option to make the bot chat exclusively in the configured channels.

sharpquartz-72

But basically, the bot will talk wherever @mentioned, this configuration is to let the bot speak freely without being mentioned

sharpquartz-72

Right now the only way to limit this behaviour is to remove the send messages permission from the bot on the channels you don't want to allow people to talk with the bot.

azurearcher-80 OP

Yeah I did that earlier since I thought it was "broke" lol.
