-# Dominant stallions are the most successful males in the area. They are typically more assertive, defensive, and experienced than other band stallions. Dominant stallions have proven safety, effective protection, strength, and knowledge. Engaging in prolonged, physical combat with dominant males may bring serious risks.๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐
-# Harem stallions function as the primary adult male of a particular band. These stallions offer protection, keeping the band cohesive and safe from takeovers. Harem stallions may intervene when internal mares disputes have gotten intense. Furthermore, they retain exclusive access to bond with their mares, along with the ability to sire foals within their group.๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐
-# Subordinate stallions are matured males that remain within or near a harem without having access to mares. They are often younger, lower ranking, closely related, low-testosterone individuals, or not seen as an immediate threat by the dominant stallion. They are more restrained and cautious, often involving movement along the edges of the group, quick yielding during conflict, and avoidance of direct competition.-# Subordinate stallions may remain close to the band, increase vigilance, or contribute indirectly to group stability, but they do not control mare movement. Subordinate stallions may attempt to rise in status, however it could lead to expulsion.

-# Bachelor stallions are mature individuals that do not currently hold a band. These males establish social relationships, practice sparring behaviors, and develop the skills needed for future competition. Bachelor stallions spend much of their time searching for opportunities and may challenge resident stallions, though successful takeovers are relatively uncommon.

-# Dominant mares are considered high-ranked among the other members within a band. Resident members are required to give up resources that are contested for if they are not able to make the dominant mare yield. Their primary purpose is to regulate social interactions and uphold the bandโs hierarchy. They may intervene in disputes, correct unruly youngsters, and discourage inappropriate behavior from other residents.-# Dominant mares also decide whether trailing mares are tolerated within or near the band. Their acceptance is usually slow and dependent on repeated observation. Refusal can involve displacement and blocking access to resources.

-# Influential mares are highly experienced. They hold the knowledge of safe migratory routes, social stability, and alerting the herd of nearby threats. They are among the first individuals to lead migration, initiate movement, and locate safe escapes, with resident members choosing to follow their lead. While they are not necessarily high-ranking within the hierarchy, they are often among the most respected mares in the group.๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐
-# Ungrouped mares are not currently integrated into a stable band and are moving independently without a consistent social group. This can occur after separation from a harem due to displacement, loss of a foal-related bond, or gradual drifting away from a previous band, as well as during transitional periods when a mare is between groups. Ungrouped mares occasionally monitor nearby groups for chances to join a band.
Resident mares and bachelors can form their own internal and situation-based hierarchies, outside of dominant and influential members. More assertive mares typically hold higher positions and better access to resources, whereas yielding and weaker mares might not. Hierarchy can shift overtime and is not strict.
Ungrouped mares may only stay alone for a minimum of 6 sessions. After that time has passed, they must look for a band to join.
