Hezbollah’s 2006 Mistake and the Cost of War

Zusammenfassung

In r/Lebanon, this announcement questions why Hezbollah opened another front with Israel after its leader described the 2006 war as an outcome he would not have chosen. It asks whether the latest conflict can be justified without national consensus and when repeated miscalculations become unacceptable to the people of Lebanon.

If Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah regretted 2006, why did Hezbollah repeat the same mistake again and how many times must we pay for Hezbollah’s “miscalculations”?

In August 2006, shortly after the war with Israel ended, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah publicly admitted that Hezbollah “We did not think, even one percent, that the capture would lead to a war at this time and of this magnitude. You ask me, if I had known on July 11 ... that the operation would lead to such a war, would I do it? I say no, absolutely not,"

Nearly two decades later, history repeated itself.

During the most recent conflict, Hezbollah again opened a front with Israel without national consensus. The result was once again devastating. If Hezbollah acknowledged that 2006 was a mistake, then what do we call this? At some point, repeating the same mistake of such a magnitude can not be tolerated and accepted by the people.

So my question to Hezbollah supporters is, at what point does these mistakes becomes reckless and unacceptable and how can the latest war be justified?
