My great-great-great-grandmother Mariana Kairouz was the sister of Patriarch Arida. Their brother Rachid came to Australia and brought his niece and her husband (my great-great-grandparents). I still have some of Rachid's belongings, postcards and photos from Lebanon, but I don't have much information/photos of their upbringing/earlier life.
Is there anywhere that I could find this kind of information? Would I have to visit Lebanon to access it?
There aren't many English sources on this topic, and the last people in my family to speak Arabic were my great-grandparents.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Miziara is a distinctive village in the Zgharta District of North Lebanon, situated on a hilltop approximately 800 meters above sea level. It is widely celebrated for its eccentric architecture, lush landscapes, and deep religious roots.
Unique Architecture: The village is famous for its "extravagant" homes, most notably the Airplane House, a residential structure designed to resemble an Airbus A380. Other unusual landmarks include a Pyramid House and buildings inspired by Greek and Egyptian ruins.
Religious Significance: Miziara is home to Our Lady of Miziara (Mother of Mercies), a prominent Maria shrine and pilgrimage site featuring lifelike sculptures and a peaceful park. The village also hosts over 12 churches, including the rose-shaped St. Maria Teresa Goretti Shrine.
Rich History: Originally a dense forest filled with wild boars, it was not inhabited until the late 17th century. It later became known for its emigrants, particularly to Brazil and Africa, whose success funded the village’s "palaces" and modern development.

The man saving Lebanon's cinema history, a poster at a time

In a country without film archives, one man is preserving Lebanon's film industry history. With thousands of movie posters, Abboudi Bou Jaoude is saving cinematic heritage in an archive that's emotional for many.

At the end of a little side street in the Beirut neighborhood of Ras Beirut, a faded poster points the way. If you follow the sign, head up a steep path to the left and through a heavy door, you'll find yourself between tall bookshelves. Novels, political analyses, out-of-print editions about the culture and history of the region.
A few steps further, around the corner you'll enter a second room. And here the atmosphere changes, it's more dense and colourful. It's here where poster heaven begins. Fascinating colors, so many faces, and typographies from over a century of trends in print.
There, at the back of the store, sits Abboudi Bou Jaoude, friendly, unassuming, always ready to tell a story. Behind him, Lebanese and Egyptian film posters from the 1960s and 70s, alongside posters from Iraq, Tunisia and Morocco. In between, there are magnets, postcards and coasters. An archive, but one that is alive and ready to evoke memories.

"This shop is an archive for Lebanon, but also for the entire region," Bou Jaoude says. With more than 20,000 posters, his collection is considered one of the largest of its kind in the region. Many of the posters now hang in private homes — and even in the nearby Cafe Kalei, where film enthusiasts sip espresso while gazing at the faces of iconic Lebanese singers Fairuz or a young Sabah.

Hi everyone,
I'm currently looking for some specific spots that appeared in the show "Taghyeer Jo" (تغيير جو).
I already recognized the scenes filmed at the Airport and by the Raouche Rocks, but I’m having trouble identifying the specific restaurant and the bowling alley shown in the attached photos.
Does anyone recognize these places? Any help with names or locations would be appreciated!

Syria–Lebanon Visit Aimed to ‘Build Trust’, Reaffirm Support for Sovereignty, Stability in Both Countries, Delegation Co-Head Tells Security Council
The Security Council’s historic visit to Syria and Lebanon two weeks ago had one clear objective: “to build trust”, the visiting mission’s co-leads — Slovenia, Algeria and Denmark — told the 15-member organ today, detailing direct engagement with Syrian and Lebanese stakeholders.
The visit enabled Council members to witness the extensive destruction in a neighbourhood of Damascus while observing the hope Syrians demonstrate as they strive to rebuild their country, said Slovenia’s representative, speaking also on behalf of Algeria and Denmark.
Covering a wide range of issues — including justice and reconciliation, humanitarian assistance and reconstruction, the political transition and counter-terrorism — the visit served as a clear demonstration of the international community’s solidarity with the Syrian people. “We reaffirmed our strong support for Syria’s sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity,” he stated, adding that several members expressed grave concern over Israeli violations.
He further welcomed assurances by the transitional Government that Syria would not pose a threat to the region or to the broader international community, as well as its stated commitment to peace and security. The Council also expressed hope to finalize an agreement on the reconfiguration of the UN presence in Damascus, which would enable the Organization to stand by the Syrian people.
“We met with victims’ groups, Governors from Suweida and Dara’a and the coastal region, as well as representatives of the national investigation and fact-finding committees,” he said, calling for an inclusive political process and transparent justice for atrocities committed over the past 14 years. He also highlighted t...

Demining is one of the most dangerous tasks our peacekeepers carry out. Before October 2023, peacekeepers were already clearing remnants of past conflicts. Now, the recent conflict has left many new unexploded weapons across the south.
@UNIFIL_ 3h
In coordination with the @LebarmyOfficial peacekeepers have been removing these hazards to protect lives, restore freedom of movement, support resolution 1701, and help communities gradually return as conditions improve
Chinese peacekeepers deployed in southern Lebanon are continuing intensive demining operations along the “Blue Line”, the demarcation separating Lebanon and Israel, as part of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL)
Lebanon: one year on
Today – 27 November – marks one year since the ceasefire in Lebanon.
Yet large areas of the south remain heavily contaminated with explosive ordnance following the escalation in hostilities in 2024.
Against this backdrop, MAG’s teams have been working to keep communities safe, deliver urgent risk education, and clear land so families can begin returning home.
Large sections of southern Lebanon remain dangerous. According to the Lebanese Mine Action Centre (LMAC), roughly two million square metres of new contamination have been identified since the ceasefire, alongside more than 2.3 million cubic metres of rubble scattered across residential areas, farmland and critical infrastructure. This destruction continues to restrict movement, hinder recovery, and slow the return of displaced families.
The humanitarian toll also remains severe. Since November 2024, LMAC has recorded 48 explosive ordnance victims – three-quarters of them adult men. Civilians were injured while checking their homes, clearing rubble, collecting scrap metal, working their fields, or simply moving through area...

just why? do we live in the country of horrible merchants who want to always rob you?
Look at best buy USA, a 75 inch oled 4k tv for 349$ form toshiba???? wtf... the cheapest i found of this TV here was 799$ on discount, which is even above retail price there. and they imported that toshiba just like we did, and that's with increased tariffs since trump!

I wonder if roads were closed for al Khomeini visit what would the public opinion be like ? I mean we seen people cry cz they wanted to project a picture on al rawchi rock. I'm fairly certain the reaction would've been the complete opposite of what the shi3a have shown and wouldn't have been met with the same tolerance they are displaying.

A little about me: I am the most ni2a person in Lebanon and I’ve been trying restaurants since 2014. I’ve been working in FNB for 5 years and own a restaurant. I know the tricks they use.
Value for money = how much it’s worth it (the lower means the restaurant is extremely profiting from your patronage)
Quality to price = how much is the quality compared to the price
I ordered:
Oriental Rice with Lamb - $16
My rating: 3/10
Taste: 7/10
Value for money 1/10
Quality to price 2/10
https://preview.redd.it/p4gzpo1vlz3g1.jpg?width=960&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1c647f60c19c60fdd9c7dc870e54fffaed5316f1
First, I just want to precise their SOPs are plain wrong. They put the laban (cold) next to the hot platter and hot gravy which made it arrive wrong (it should be in a separate bag). Next the amount of plastic used is crazy! They should put a warning about microplastic consumption, all the food is extremely hot and they put it in this low quality plastic container. This is a serious health hazard in this country which is overlooked.
For the food I’ll start with the gravy which is 80% butter and fat, it’s not bad but not wow. The laban is the same (mid).
The rice has been sitting in a bain-marie for at least 4-5 hours before getting into this plate, it’s dry and mid. I won’t be surprised if it was from yesterday. Same with the lamb; I paid $16 and all they gave me was 3 little pieces which were dry (lamb leg is usually juicy and tasty). That’s my main problem here, they make me pay $16 for this platter which is 90% dry rice and 50g lamb. What’s the food cost here? 10%?

The taste is acceptable, it’s butter rice and lamb, it’s really hard to miss.
Honestly I tried this restaurant in 2019, 2020 and it was 0/10 before, I don’t know who keeps ordering or convincing themself it’s good. Maybe they survive off of catering? I would avoid it, your hard earned money is better off somewhere e...

We visited renowned architect Bernard Khoury in his studio in Karantina, who offered a critical, unvarnished look at the reality of practicing architecture in Lebanon, contrasting it with the sugarcoated story of the "Phoenix coming out of its ashes".
He discusses his career beginnings, the 2020 Beirut port explosion, and how his first project—the infamous B018 nightclub—was a radically specific and necessary response to the city’s complex, macabre history and unstable political and economic context. Khoury shares his philosophical approach to architecture, which rejects stylistic gestures in favor of an obsession with specificity and a direct confrontation with Beirut's explosive nature, arguing for a practice that produces honest, if sometimes "sour" meaning in the present rather than succumbing to toxic simplifications.
