We are not Arab rhetorics and the annoyance of it
I won’t be going into history nor culture, strictly genetics.
In genetics, the term “Arab” refers to a broad and diverse population grouping with same ancestral roots. Certain genetic markers—most commonly haplogroups J1 and J2—are often associated with populations historically linked to the Arabian Peninsula. Phoenicians, Canaanites, Bedouins, Egyptians and Berbers (to a lesser extent). They all share overlapping haplogroup variants (J1 and J2) due to ancient common ancestry and long-term regional interaction.
While originating from related ancestral populations, present-day Arab-speaking peoples are genetically heterogeneous. This diversity is the result of extensive mixing with indigenous populations in the Levant, North Africa, and Mesopotamia following historical migrations and expansions.
Populations in the UAE and Saudi Arabia largely descend from nomadic or semi-nomadic Bedouin tribes. Kuwait represents a mixture of Bedouin ancestry from the Arabian Peninsula alongside overlapping Iraqi and Iranian gene pools. Moroccans are predominantly Amazigh (Berber). The ancient inhabitants of Libya were indigenous North African peoples known to the Egyptians as the Libu and Meshwesh (Ma) tribes—part of the broader Amazigh population—who lived in the region long before Arab, Greek, or Roman arrivals. Modern genetic studies suggest continuity between ancient Levantine populations and present-day groups: Lebanese are often associated with Phoenician ancestry, while Palestinians are linked to Canaanites—in fact are the same (very similar) related peoples historically and genetically. And so on.
However all of these groups do share J1 and J2 haplogroups, therefore we may conclude, that genetically, all are somewhat related to the same gene pool and therefore are Arab.
This is what we mean by ethnically Arab: a shared gene pool to varying degrees. While understanding one’s ethnicity can be useful—for medical history, genetic predispositions, or simple curiosity—it should never dictate how we treat others or inte...
