What does the Bup emoji mean?

The ultimate expression of smug, blocky satisfaction.

The Bup emoji is a staple of internet meme culture, originating from the iconic, low-resolution face of the character from the Super Mario 64 'Bup' meme. It is frequently used in Discord servers to convey a sense of ironic smugness, quiet judgment, or a 'gotcha' moment. Its blocky, pixelated aesthetic makes it a perfect reaction for gaming communities and shitposting channels.

When to use it

  • Expressing smug satisfaction after winning a debate
  • Reacting to someone saying something incredibly foolish
  • Signaling quiet judgment during a heated argument
  • Adding a layer of irony to chat messages
