What does the chad emoji mean?

The ultimate expression of unbothered, stoic confidence.

This iconic black-and-white portrait features a man with extremely defined facial features, often used to signify peak confidence or an unshakeable, stoic attitude. In Discord and Slack communities, it is frequently deployed to shut down arguments, signal agreement with a 'based' take, or mock someone who is getting overly emotional. It has become a staple of internet culture for representing the 'ideal' masculine archetype in a hyperbolic, meme-centric way.

When to use it

  • Acknowledging a based or controversial opinion
  • Shutting down an argument with stoic silence
  • Mocking someone who is acting overly emotional
  • Signaling complete confidence in a difficult situation
