What does the Grey emoji mean?

The ultimate minimalist avatar for when you are just a blank slate.

This classic user silhouette is the universal placeholder for anyone who hasn't set a profile picture or wants to remain anonymous. In Discord and Slack communities, it is often used ironically to represent the 'default' user, a mysterious stranger, or someone who is completely checked out of the conversation.

When to use it

  • Representing a user without a profile picture
  • Signifying someone who is being totally anonymous
  • Mocking someone for having a default avatar
  • Indicating a mysterious or unknown chat participant
