What does the Loading emoji mean?

The universal symbol for your internet connection giving up on you.

This classic loading spinner icon has become a staple of digital communication, representing the frustration of buffering videos or slow-loading pages. In Discord and Slack, it is frequently used ironically to mock someone's slow response time or to signal that you are 'thinking' about a difficult question. It captures the shared human experience of staring at a screen while waiting for something to happen.

When to use it

  • Signaling that you are ignoring a message
  • Mocking someone for having a slow connection
  • Expressing that your brain is currently buffering
  • Waiting impatiently for a friend to reply
