What does the mermao emoji mean?

A surreal, detached yellow smiley face that perfectly captures the feeling of being completely over it.

This emoji features a floating, disembodied yellow head wearing boots, often used to convey a sense of surreal detachment or 'brain rot' humor. It is a staple in shitposting communities and Discord servers where users want to express a feeling of being present but mentally checked out. Its bizarre, low-quality 3D aesthetic makes it a perfect reaction for nonsensical or awkward situations.

When to use it

  • Expressing total confusion during a weird conversation
  • Reacting to a nonsensical or cursed message
  • Showing detachment from a chaotic chat thread
  • Signaling that you are completely checked out
