What does the yellow_card emoji mean?

The ultimate way to call out bad takes and questionable behavior in chat.

The yellow card emoji is the universal symbol for a warning or a penalty, borrowed directly from soccer referee culture. In Discord and Slack, it serves as a playful way to 'book' someone for a terrible pun, a controversial opinion, or breaking an unwritten server rule. It is the perfect tool for when you need to signal that someone is skating on thin ice without actually involving a moderator.

When to use it

  • Warning someone for making a terrible joke
  • Calling out a friend for a bad take
  • Penalizing someone for breaking server etiquette rules
  • Signaling that someone is on thin ice
