Q: How did the decision to not include combat mechanics in Mangút come about?
A: We were originally making a mobile game, but we realized the market was pretty harsh and less fun to work in. From there, the project started shifting toward a narrative platformer that talks about hunger, and the game gradually shaped itself into a precision platformer starring Gil, an app delivery worker.
Q: The story touches on common but heavy themes from everyday Brazilian life. How did this narrative evolve during development?
A: Gil’s story and daily routine fit really well with the genre, which is fast, tense, and difficult. We bring some of those struggles into the game, always trying to keep it accessible to all kinds of players.
Q: Do you see Mangút as a game with a political or social theme? Why?
A: Yes! Throughout Gil’s journey with the player, we touch on themes like the gig economy, inequality, and exploitation, real issues that deserve more space in the conversation.
Q: When players finish Mangút, what feeling do you hope they take with them?
A: I hope they feel rewarded! They’ve overcome a great challenge and leave knowing more about a current issue that deserves more attention.
