Teen Savings Plan: Is a $700 Laptop Worth It?

Am I too young to get a laptop?

Hello everyone! Ive been negotiating with my dad for a monthly allowance and I was able to convince him to give me 50 dollars per month. Before you guys legit jump me, my mom has told me the monthly allowance is quite low and I should be ATLEASt getting 150 dollars. But I was like that's too much. on top of that I don't know how to spend money correctly.

Why don't I know how to spend money correctly? I have fallen victim to a mindset which I don't really know how to explain other than overconsummerism and childish behavior. People have mentioned to me before on MANY occasions that I need to stop buying random stuff and waste money. I'm 15 right now hence why information is all over the place. Do forgive me.

Anyway, as soon as my father agreed to the monthly allowance I started planning what to do with my saved up money from before And now with the combined monthly allowance. My first plan was honestly something I have been thinking about for a long time; getting stuff that I actually WANTED to get without wasting money since that idea is what started the entire thing about money and being financially mature or idk what you call it.

The things I want to spend my money on will make me go broke Ngl 💔but I have promised myself that I will not indulge in buying anything like it anymore unless i have finished 3/4 of the stuff I bought. (Tbh I have been scared the entire time while writing this to mention that I want to buy makeup because I reAlly like it as a hobby and I love that I can do a lot of self expression with it. Again, please don't come for me.)

The plan , after going broke, was to save up to buy a laptop. I have calculated that by the age of 16 I will have enough money to buy a reasonably priced laptop around 700 to 800 bucks. But this will work best IF my father accepts me wanting 70 dollars per month after me turning 16. And no, in no way shape or form do I want this to be a "gift", I want it to be like this until I go to uni or what ever I pray happens. PLUSSSZ, school allowance, my father gi...

Lebanese: who do you see as the closest European cultural kin on this list, part II?

I excluded Greece this time as that was the most common and added in a few other choices.

Should I study in BAU or LIU?

I'd definitely prefer studying at BAU, but the tuition is more expensive. BAU is like 8k a year, LIU is about 5700 a year. However I'm studying CS so the uni doesn't matter much. BAU is Abet accredited while LIU is not. I want to get my bachelor and continue studying abroad (preferably in Canada).

Lebanese: which of these choices do you feel more affinity to as a Lebanese?

I removed Greece and replaced it with Spain and Portugal, and kept other choices. I also have a None option.

Anyone traveled with MEA: Do you know if the 158 cm checked-bag limit is strict?

I already have a suitcase at home that measures 163 cm total (L+W+H), so it’s 5 cm over MEA’s 158 cm limit. Its weight is safely under the 23 kg limit.

If you’ve traveled with MEA, have you ever been charged extra for being just 5 cm over?

Place that removes MacBook Icloud lock

Hello everyone, I recently found a MacBook pro we had in an office but it is icloud locked. Unfortunately there's no way to find the apple id or the password. Is there anyone within Beirut that can bypass the lock and reset the laptop. How much does it cost on average.

Explore Lebanon & Beirut’s Unfinished Burj El Murr

Lebanon Trip

Hi everyone! I’m planning to visit Lebanon for two weeks for a vacation and I’d really appreciate some advice from people who know the country well.

What areas/cities do you recommend staying in?

What are the must-visit places in Lebanon?

What local food and restaurants should I absolutely try?

Are there any beautiful nature spots, beaches, mountains, or hidden gems that tourists usually miss?

Is it better to rent a car or use taxis/other transportation?

I’m looking for a good mix of culture, food, nature, beaches, nightlife, and local experiences rather than just the typical tourist attractions.

If you’ve visited Lebanon recently, I’d really appreciate it if you could share your approximate spending for 2 weeks and any recommendations. Thank you! 🇱🇧❤️

Burj El Murr, the Concrete Giant That Still Haunts Beirut’s Skyline

Burj El Murr was originally envisioned as one of Beirut’s tallest and most modern office towers, paralleling the city’s rapid economic growth and modernization during the early 1970s. However, when the Lebanese Civil War erupted in 1975, construction came to an abrupt halt, leaving the massive concrete tower permanently unfinished. Because of its exceptional height and strategic location overlooking central Beirut, armed groups occupied the building and used it during civil war (similarly to the nearby Holiday In) as an important observation point and sniper position throughout the conflict. Decades after the war ended, the abandoned tower continues to join modern towers in the domination of Beirut’s skyline. Its enormous concrete structure remains clearly visible from almost every part of the city, standing as one of Beirut’s most recognizable landmarks and a haunting reminder of both the city’s pre-war ambitions and the destruction that followed.

How Were Israelis Born in 1954 Beirut?

How was it possible for an Israeli Jew to be born in Lebanon from Israeli parents?

Hi guys, I have an historic/political question.

Here in Italy there's this guy, Gad Lerner, who was born in Beirut from Israeli parents (his father was born in a kibbutz in Haifa, his mother was born in Tel Aviv). Lerner was born in Beirut, Lebanon, in 1954.

Lebanon and Israel weren't really friends in 1954 (I don't mean that now u guys are), but I wonder, how was it possible for two israelis to move to Lebanon and have a child there?

Hope you guys can solve my doubt. Have a good day!

How Were Israelis Born in 1954 Beirut?

Removing Greece as a choice: which do you see as the second closest European culture to Lebanese?

I am keeping French here and added a Spanish/portuguese option, since people listed it in the comments. Most people who did not choose “none” last time answered Greece, so this will assess the second closest.

Fairuz’s Atini Nay Wa Ghanni: A Dream Sung Live

Fulfilled a Long Dream of Singing Atini Nay Wa Ghanni Live

Shared this in r/Lebanese, thought I should share it here too.

I've been singing since high school. One of the first songs I knew I wanted to sing live one day was Atini Nay Wa Ghanni, it's my favorite song by Fairuz and one of my favorite songs in the world. I finally got my chance this past weekend and wanted to share the performance with people who I know can appreciate it (please be gentle with your criticisms lol). The picture cuts out in the middle of the video, problem with the file itself, but the audio is there all the way through.

Singing this was the most emotional experience in my career as a singer for so many reasons. I feel like I achieved something I've been working towards since I was maybe 19 years old. Apart from how far I've come as a singer, my grandmother also was a terrific singer and I wish she was still alive to hear me now. I also miss Lebanon and worry about its future (as well as that of my family) and how much worse shit will get and how I'm part of the problem simply by living in USA. With all of that in mind, presenting the music of Fairuz and words of Khalil Gibran to an American audience felt like singing Edelweiss. As a member of the Lebanese diaspora I'm always eager to share the culture with people, but it never felt quite like the night I sang this.

Solar Production Data Since April 2022

My solar data since April 2022

I finally figured out how to pull all my solar inverter data into an sqlite database and I made some nice graphs out of them about solar production over time.

https://preview.redd.it/fc447vvhu4kh1.png?width=1227&format=png&auto=webp&s=c9b2fa188112f3ec5df773b10cee530f649a57c1

The system has 12 solar panels 600 watts, the most it ever produces as per this report was was 6680 kwh in August. The caveat is unless we are consuming this much power, the solar panels will not produce that much. So solar production numbers is not just about the weather, it's also about spend(but it is mostly the weather)
