When Lebanon Manufactured Its Own Vinyl Records
Summarize

Mosaic of the Orient by Elias Rahbani (Released in 1972 in Lebanon) – From the Hage Family Collection
By: Ralph I. Hage / Arab America Contributing Writer
Before the Lebanese Civil War began in 1975, Lebanon manufactured its own vinyl records. One of the largest local companies producing them was the Société Libanaise Du Disque (SLD). As a major cultural institution, SLD played a central role in preserving, promoting, and advancing Lebanese music worldwide. It also helped shape Lebanon’s soundscape and the broader Arab music scene by bridging traditional Lebanese sounds with modern musical trends.
Origins and Early History
Founded in the early twentieth century, the Société Libanaise Du Disque emerged during a significant period of transformation in the Lebanese music industry. With its rich mix of Eastern and Western influences, Lebanon was beginning to experience a cultural renaissance. SLD was established in response to the growing demand for recorded music, which was gaining popularity worldwide due to advancements in sound recording technology.
Revolutionizing the Local Music Industry
Fairuz in Petra (Released in 1978 in Lebanon) – From the Hage Family Collection
During the mid-20th century, Lebanon was a central hub for the Arab music scene, producing some of the most well-known voices in Arab music. Artists such as Fairouz, Sabah, and Wadih El Safi, among many others, had their records produced by local companies, which significantly enhanced the country’s music profile on a global scale. In addition to supporting Lebanese artists, these production companies also manufactured records for foreign artists, including Shirley Bassey, Eddie Holman, and The Rolling Stones.
SLD’s contribution extended beyond merely promoting established artists; it played a crucial role as a curator of music. By producing albums that captured the essence of Lebanese folk music, classical influences, and modern Arabic pop, SLD created...

It seems like some crazy coincidence happened, right? Ever since what happened happened, all of these things have taken place in less than 6 months: syria-lebanon border agreement, better relations with europe and the US, as well as fixing the ones with the GCC, the hope for depositors' money to come back has sparked again, airport got a ticket gate, getting visas is getting easier, salaries and economy are improving, most ministers are people who care about their field and are actually doing their job, heightened security at airport, port and borders, syrian refugee issue is in the works of being resolved, public transit is being implemented, new rent law that solves a decades long issue is finally getting passed, the loser Riad Salémé is rotting in prison like a candle, Séhet El-Nejmé has been reopened again, ministries of environment and agriculture are actually doing their work, electricitt coverage has been increasing steadily (hopefully will reach 24/365), hezbollah us on the verge of disarming, most people don't feel threatened by hezbollah's sahsouh anymore, flights from Iran are banned, and much more.
This is all a coincidence, right?

https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/iran-backed-militias-iraq-ready-disarm-avert-trump-wrath-2025-04-07/
By now, it has been made abundantly clear, that Hezb acts only according to the Ayatollah's orders and blessings. If anyone still believes that Hezb has Lebanon's best interest in mind as priority, and only wants to "defend their land"; then I have a bridge to sell you. (I am talking exclusively about the Hezb leadership, not the poor regular fighters who for the most part probably believe they are offering their lives for their land.)
Until now Hezb still claims they won't fully disarm, at least in their public speeches; despite them having signed the cease fire agreement that clearly mentions which specific official Lebanese forces are allowed to be armed. Despite our own constitution and laws. Despite the Ministerial Statement which they agreed on and are part of.
Now that apparently the Iraqi militias want to spare lives and disarm, after vowing for decades to want to "destroy Israel", suddenly it's OK, and the eternal fight with the Shaytan el Akbar and el Shaytan el Asghar isn't that important anymore. And Iran is fine with Iraqis doing the rational thing and avoid death and destruction... But not in Lebanon, noooo! Because the Lebanese "bi2a" has proven time and time again, that they are ready to give their children as free sacrifice on the Ayatollah's alter. So why lose the Lebanon Hezb negotiating card so soon? They still need it to trade with the US when and if they negotiate, especially due to Lebanon's geographic proximity to Israel.
Until when will our brothers in the "bi2a" want to willingly keep being cheap meat for the Iranian grinder? (And throw us all with them in as well). Haven't we learned yet that Iran isn't your friend? They sold you out when Nasrallah and most of the leadership was killed, when Hezb was being pummled relentlessly and everywhere by the asshole enemy. Your represntatives were hiding in the Parliament and Saraya, because they knew that Lebanese legitimacy a...

Every ex palastinian side in lebanon’s civil war including SSNP, feda2iyin, PSP, palestinian militias, Communist party are being hypocritical against hezeballah. All of these parties did exactly the same as hezb. You hear nouhad mashnouk son speak very harshly at hzbos but not at his father when he was a مرابطون fighting other fellow lebos for a foreign cause. Or jumblat family fighting imperialism against Maronites while being the most imperial family in lebanon adopting the palestinian cause for convenience. The irony of the jabal is the celebration they did when the murderer of kamal was found in coastal syria. What about the massacre you did a night after his death? If you already knew syria murdered him why the fuck would you retaliate on the christians in the jabal.
Pan arab= hezeb=aarafat= naser bullshit. Reconcile with your history destroying the coutry for an entity everyone on earth forgot about. Spefically nouhad mashnouk son i forgot his name.

Agriculture Minister, Nizar Hani, on Friday met with a Lebanese Forces delegation led by MP Chawki Daccache, with whom he discussed sector challenges and cooperation opportunities.
The delegation called for stricter border control to curb smuggling, modernizing agriculture through soilless farming, and expanding training efforts. They urged ministry support for cooperatives, accelerated implementation of cannabis cultivation, and greater diplomatic efforts to promote Lebanese produce.
Minister Hani welcomed collaboration and confirmed the upcoming appointment of the cannabis regulatory authority. The LF offered to support model farming projects and requested a role in shaping future agricultural reform plans through their party’s Agricultural Office.

The most obvious factor is Netanyahu wanting to stay in power and avoid jail. He personally needs the hostilities to continue and increase.
Some people in his cabinet want Israel to expand, but it that really one of Israel's intentions right now?
Is it to provoke a war with Iran?

Remembering Beirut's synagogue, a jewel of Indian and Arab Jewry
Vijay Prashad17 Mar, 2025
It seems like a century ago I stood in the graveyard in Beirut's Al-Basta neighbourhood. There was magic in the graveyard, which is in an area of shops — bassata, from which the quarter gets its name, means to "spread your merchandise on the ground".
I had come on the advice of the Irish journalist Robert Fisk (1946-2020) to see where St. John Philby (1885-1960) had been buried.
During one of our coffees at Café Younes at the upper end of Hamra, I had brought along a copy of Elizabeth Monroe’s Philby of Arabia (1973) an old-fashioned biography riddled with errors but filled with charm — a book written based on Monroe’s conversations with Philby, who had gone from socialism to the British Foreign Office to Islam and then to being the principal advisor of King Abdulaziz Ibn Saud of Saudi Arabia.
"You better go have a look at where Philby was buried," Fisk said. And what Fisk said, I did.
The jaunt, however, was a bit disappointing. I could not find his grave. It was said that Philby’s son, the famous British intelligence agent who had all along been spying for the Soviets, had scrawled on his father’s gravestone something about him being a great explorer. An ancient man at the cemetery told me that a lot of old graves had been covered over by the dead of the civil war.
I got lost on my walk back and found myself in front of the Maghen Abraham synagogue.
The building stopped me because it has an exterior that resembles a Venetian palazzo, the white and yellow ochre walls and embellishments a little out of place in what had been Beirut’s Wadi Abu Jamil, the Jewish Quarter.
I understand why the synagogue had been built in this fashion. Beirut is a city of trade and merchants, and it made sense for the Jewish community to erect a grand building to rival other grand buildings (banks and markets). The neighbourhood had other synagogues, mostly in apartments, so this was a statement of the community’s establishment rath...

Why drag 3 soldiers from Homs all the way to Lebanon’s border to stone them? How on earth were the aggressors, be they Hezb or clansman, not spotted?
If this is Hezbollah, why’d they execute them? Their style is taking hostages for a swap, they might as well kill them then and there instead of taking them captive just to stone them.
Why did the Lebanese Red Cross have the bodies of these soldiers and handed them readily to the Syrians?

Since hezeb decided a year ago, with their illegal weapons, to start a war on Israel, without even notifying the lebanese government and building shelters for lebanese, but got beat up so badly they lost most if not all their high-level commandment perished (most hiding in civilian areas like the rat Nasrallah), where were these "rambos" from last night during it? Why weren't they showing us their bravery on the southern border?
Why were the hezeb MPs hiding sleeping in the parlament, too afraid that the IDF picks them off? Whenever they can they will abuse our land and our sovereignty for their expansion of Wilayet Fakih project. Your weapons are all illegal you have no right to bear arms and you signed a surrender agreement that allows the IDF to pick you off if you break it as we saw for the past few nonth with the fatayis 🔥

I don't believe he is a spy per se, as much as that the Trump administration is genuinely schizophrenic. MAGA Far right-wingers have an extreme pro-Israel arm and an anti-semitic (Jewish conspiracies) arm.
