Pokémon VGC Team Building: Optimizing Glimmora & Basculegion

Resumen

This discussion focuses on refining a team by evaluating the utility of Mega Glimmora versus base Glimmora with a Focus Sash, alongside the viability of Scarfed Basculegion. Members share strategic insights on weather control, item choices, and counter-play options to help trainers improve their performance in competitive VGC matches.

This is the team I’ve been using. Two things though.
1. Mega Glimmora
It has a clear role here, its for opposing volcaronas, zardys and fairies however I always bring Froslass to like 99% of my match ups. Even against fairies I will preferably deal with them with Volcarona. Against Zardy teams, they usually have stuff like scarfed chomp which just kills my glimmora-I know, play around it but even so having Froslass to regain the weather is pretty nice. It can set up aurora veil and heat wave in the snow does not pick up the ohko on Froslass. Even if I’m bringing glimmora it will be mega froslass + base glimmora which makes me wonder what the mega stone is even for. Against dua weather I am even more likely to bring Mega Froslass, though sometimes I bring base glimmora as well.
2. Scarfed Basculegion
Its been doing its job well but I wonder if Scarfed Chomp is better. Covers alot of stuff that basculegion doesn’t, but my own rillaboom nerfs my own earthquake. I should probably just keep the basculegion

warmbeacon-46 OP

Mainly just looking to relace mega glimmora, doesn’t even need to be a mega since I usually brung froslass anyways.

hear me out

youngxenon-79

use tough claws lycanroc dusk

youngxenon-79

with a sash

youngxenon-79

its great into zard y, rock slide spam is funny, and close combat + tough claws is good into gambit who has a phenomenal matchup into your froslass (in the cases u dont bring volcarona

youngxenon-79

and it's good into opposing volcarona

@youngxenon-79 use tough claws lycanroc dusk
warmbeacon-46 OP

Would love to actually

warmbeacon-46 OP

I’m just not sure if its ideal

warmbeacon-46 OP

What if I just sash base glimmora lol

warmbeacon-46 OP

Toxic Debris is funny and I get poison coverage

merrykitten-85

I’d test Sash base Glimmora before replacing the slot outright. It keeps the Rock/Poison coverage you actually want while letting you Mega Froslass every game you need the weather control. Toxic Debris is a bonus, not something I’d build the whole game around, and Sash only helps while Glimmora is at full HP.

I’d keep Scarf Basculegion for that test. Swapping Glimmora’s item and changing your main fast attacker together makes it harder to tell what fixed the matchup. Your Rillaboom does weaken Earthquake through Grassy Terrain, but not Stomping Tantrum or High Horsepower, so a Ground attacker is still possible later. Try the smaller change first and track whether Glimmora is contributing even when it never Mega Evolves.

@warmbeacon-46 I’m just not sure if its ideal
youngxenon-79

well its been ran with froslass on italian ice before

youngxenon-79

i agree with that, you should make sure even base glim doesnt contribute before replacing

youngxenon-79

and you'll find out if its ideal after testing!

@youngxenon-79 i agree with that, you should make sure even base glim doesnt contribute before replacing
warmbeacon-46 OP

Base glimmora does help

warmbeacon-46 OP

Just wondering whether to choose lycan or glimmora

@youngxenon-79 well its been ran with froslass on italian ice before
warmbeacon-46 OP

I know but that team is a bit different from mine

warmbeacon-46 OP

Such a hard decision, glimmora has better match ups into mons like rilla and sneasler while lycan has its other better match ups as well

warmbeacon-46 OP

Lycanroc’s actually been working out fine. I wonder if I should change close combat to drill run-I think it learns drill run?

warmbeacon-46 OP

Lycanroc’s been working out well actually

warmbeacon-46 OP

So I have quite alot of choices and I am unsure of what to pick.
All are sash
1. Kleavor
Provides STAB X-Scissor and Stone Axe as well as Tailwind
2. Lycanroc
Tough claws boosted Rock Slide + Priority Accelerock and Close Combat coverage
3. Glimmora
Probides STAB Sludge Bomb + Power Gem, Earth Power is decent coverage. Nice little bonus with Spiky Shield and Toxic Debris
3. Aerodactyl (This one I’m most doubtful of)
Provides extremely fast Tailwind + Dual Wingbeat into Sash Venusaur sets
Someone recommended me to go with Kleavor while another said Lycanroc and both also admitted that Glimmora is good as well. So I’m very stuck

silvercactus-53

I'm personally extremely doubtful of this team rn

silvercactus-53

It's a volcarona enabler one and volcarona begun being awful again

@silvercactus-53 I'm personally extremely doubtful of this team rn
warmbeacon-46 OP

I mean you’re the one who introduced me to this team

warmbeacon-46 OP

Idk honestly I just like volcarona

@warmbeacon-46 I mean you’re the one who introduced me to this team

Tragic indeed

@silvercactus-53 Yes indeed, and them meta shifted overnight the ruler yard woke up
warmbeacon-46 OP

Seriously though I am looking to replace mega glimmora with one of the mons listed above

silvercactus-53

Shz though

silvercactus-53

That'd make the yard mu so so so much worse

@silvercactus-53 That'd make the yard mu so so so much worse
warmbeacon-46 OP

I already stated above why I always bring mega froslass even when sometimes I really should be bringing mega glimmora
Ik its not ideal its just a preference of playstyle or something I guess
I just really need a mega glimm replacement with one of those mons listed above (or others if better options exist, aside from mega glimmora itself)

warmbeacon-46 OP

I think I’m being dumb but eh who cares

@silvercactus-53 I'd probably do that and be more offensive incin

warmbeacon-46 OP

So like what, change volc for snealser and use lycanroc or something?
