Para empezar, he estado pensando en un equipo alrededor de Mawile, pero hay que cubrir sus debilidades a Tierra y Fuego, y no encuentro un Pokémon adecuado que haga todo eso y que además tenga Sorpresa.

BATTLE BREAKDOWN — READING A PASSIVE TEAM
WHY I CHOSE THESE FOUR
I brought Mawile, Farigiraf, Drampa and Torkoal because I judged the opposing team to be relatively passive.
The main clues were:
- Grimmsnarl usually indicates screens, status or other support.
- Swampert looked like the only immediate and convincing threat to Mawile.
- The rest of the team appeared unlikely to punish Swords Dance + Trick Room immediately.
My plan was:
- Mawile: Main win condition.
- Farigiraf: Set Trick Room and protect the team from priority.
- Torkoal: Provide slow sun-powered damage.
- Drampa: My emergency escape button with Cloud Nine.
THE OPENING
They led Grimmsnarl and Metagross into my Mawile and Farigiraf.
Metagross used Cosmic Power, while I used:
- Swords Dance with Mawile.
- Trick Room with Farigiraf.
I cannot remember Grimmsnarl’s action, but the important part is that their passive opening allowed me to establish both my speed control and my win condition.
However, passive does not mean harmless.
Cosmic Power raises Metagross’s Defence, which also increases the damage of Body Press. By the endgame, the boosted Metagross nearly knocked out Farigiraf in one hit.
THE ENDGAME
Pelipper eventually threatened Mawile with a rain-powered Water-type Weather Ball.
I used Drampa’s Cloud Nine to suppress the effects of the weather. This removed Weather Ball’s Water typing and rain boost, helping protect Mawile.
The problem was that Cloud Nine also suppressed my own sun.
That meant Torkoal temporarily had no access to a Fire-type Weather Ball. I had almost trapped my own Torkoal by keeping Drampa on the field.
My opponent eventually recognised this and selected Wide Guard.
On the final turn, I switched:
Drampa → Farigiraf
Removing Drampa turned Cloud Nine off, allowing Torkoal’s sun to become active again. Weather Ball became a powerful Fire-type move, and because it was single-target, it bypassed Wide Guard and struck Metagross.
My opponent forfeited with Pelipper on the field and three Pokémon remaining.
THE MAIN LESSON
This battle was won through:
- Reading the opposing team at preview.
- Recognising and exploiting passive turns.
- Understanding how Cloud Nine affected both players.
- Preserving the correct switches for the endgame.
- Changing my position when my own ability became a disadvantage.
The most important move of the game was not an attack—it was switching Drampa out at exactly the right moment.
Take your time understanding this one. I would not expect a newer player to immediately recognise every interaction involved.
