If you could be self-employed/have your own business/company, what would you do/what would it be?

I'm curious tbh

For me, I love cooking, so in a very ideal world I'd love to have a page or something where I'm known to teach people how to cook at home a bunch of things, from healthy meals (cliche I know) to meals we normally overpay in restaurants but taste much better at home and cost way way less (For example: 5L of whole cow milk costs 600,00LBP and can make approximately 2.5Kg of low to almost no fat, greek yogurt)

Lebanon Debate: Sehnaoui, Netanyahu and Public Silence

We need to talk about Antoun Sehnaoui

I've tried to avoid this while looking at this subreddit discuss Spiderman for too long and the silence has been deafening.

This subreddit has been correctly up in arms about anytime an influencial figure has done something we disagree with, but when a major political player has dinner with FUCKING BIBI NETANYAHU no one is brave to say anything? Are you fucking kidding me? Regardless of how much we all blame hezb for the current situation we're ok with pretending like this isn't going on?

Can we please stop with the random villages that are clearly the prettiest villages rather that the most random villages instead of talking about one of the most influential figures in our country having dinner and suckling up to the man who is responsible for irreparable death and destruction in our country?

Lebanon War Support Wanes as Peace Plan Gains Ground

Support for the war is waning

Adnane Sayyed Hussein, who hails from southern Lebanon, remains relatively optimistic, however. “The vast majority of people in the south believe that it is the army that guarantees their protection, and they now wish to turn the page on the conflict and return to a normal life,” he says.

In fact, support for the war amongst the Shia community is waning. According to a recent poll conducted by Rabih Habre of Lebanon Files, 40 per cent of Lebanese Shias support President Joseph Aoun’s plan to end the war, and his popularity is rapidly gaining ground, even within the Shia community. The presidential entourage continues to emphasise that “it is up to the civilian population, and them alone, to decide whom to be loyal to and to free themselves from the perverse role played by propaganda and weapons”.

As if to confirm this line, the Speaker of the House, Nabih Berry – the “elder brother” of the Shi’a Hezbollah-Amal alliance – visited the presidential palace on Tuesday for the first time in four months. He made no statements on his departure, but is believed to be “more open” to the Joseph Aoun option, fearing, like many, the collapse of the memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States signed in Geneva on 19 June 2026. He is also doing so on the eve of a visit by the Head of State to Turkey, a US ally that plays a very active role on the regional stage, particularly in Syria.

In many political circles, moreover, it is being said that “the war will resume and that this time there will be a winner and a loser”. It is also known that, faced with the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz and threats of a blockade by the Houthis at the Strait of Bab el-Mandeb, the Gulf states and their allies are accelerating the development of overland infrastructure to ensure the transport of crude oil to the Red Sea, the Sea of Oman and the Mediterranean. This is a strategy from which, amongst other things, the disused IPC oil terminal in Tripoli – the restoration of which is currently being assessed – could benefit.

Racism, Hiring, and Palestinian Workers in Lebanon

Racism in Lebanon?!

Saw this on Instagram and wanted to talk about this. Look there are two sides to this problem here, first it is the right that a citizen should always come first for job opportunities no matter what country you live in so her saying “I thought we come from the same place” is just bullshit. But the other side to this problem is that we cannot be this prejudice towards certain nationalities; we can't say “Hey, since you're Palestinian or Syrian we can't hire you”, but if you're European or American or from a Gulf country we have no problem with hiring you. Lebanon is in a precarious situation where we have Palestinians who can't go back to their country. I'm not defending the owner nor am I attacking him and the same goes for both ladies but we need a solution here where Palestinians can work and not be harassed, and for our people to also secure jobs.

Random village in Lebanon #6

I'm starting this series as a tribute to Lebanon, where I'll be highlighting a different village in each post along with its history, unique facts and local stories whenever available.

If you have any photos or memories of the featured village, feel free to share them in the comments. You're also welcome to suggest which village we should explore next.

Today's village is Kfar Houneh

Located in Jezzine District of South Lebanon (75 km from Beirut), Kfar Houneh lies at an elevation of roughly 1,000 metres surrounded by dense pine forests and rolling hills. The village has a population of a few thousand residents, many of whom have traditionally relied on agriculture particularly olives, vineyards and fruits.

The name Kfar Houneh is of Syriac origin with "Kfar" means "village" and "Houneh" is believed to refer to "grace" or as I saw online, it could be a personal name so its exact meaning remains debated.

The village is best known for its cool mountain climate, scenic hiking trails and its proximity to the Barouk and Niha mountain ranges, making it a peaceful retreat for nature lovers throughout the year.

Why are Druze women like this?

So I went to the University of Sussex where I met a few Druze girls, from Lebanon etc; and their entire mindset and motto during university was to get run through by as many men as possible because they're not allowed to marry outside of their religion, and their parents will disown them. I really hope none of you guys end up getting married to them cos they were with a new guy every week but hiding from the next guy. This one girl who went on to become a lawyer got done by five of my friends and her own marijuana dealer. Best of luck.

Lebanese Gen Z Girls and Toxic Parent Relationships

Do most gen Z Lebanese girls have a toxic relationship with their parents and refuse to acknowledge it ?

It's a genuine question l've been thinking about, since I finally got to the point at 20yo where I can say I am emotionally abused by my parents (even saying it gives me second hand embarrassment).

But yeah I see all my friends and I feel sorry for the way we have to live. Especially Shia Muslims like some girls are fine with the expectations put on them but the ones I'm around just have to navigate the love and attachement we're made to feel towards our parents, to the point we can never run away (like white ppl might be able to do since they have a bit more of a detachement most of the time) with the lack of freedom and senseless restrictions. It also feels like this is excused by the fact our parents blessing is the most important thing in life.

I don't know if it's a me thing or the few Lebanese girls I know but its genuinely so sad that this is normalized and we're made to be ashamed of the victim mentality so much that we can't even bring ourselves to acknowledge it.

I can cite a thousand reasons why my parents are good people and typically not the type that you would think harm their child, but I could also tell you how they prevent me from the simplest joys because of their constant need for control.

Lebanon Resorts’ Couples-Only Rules Spark Debate

The "couples and families only" rule that resorts have is the dumbest thing to ever exist

I don't have a female friend. I only have a couple of guy friends that don't know each other so eza badde rou7 beach it's usually me alone or with 1 guy friend, or sometimes with my (adult) brother

(and guess what, my brother and I don't count under their definition of "family")

If I want to go to a resort, I have to call and ask first a7san ma netbahdal. This shit ain't normal

Or if a resort does let you in, they force you to sit on the beach away from the pool. They claim "sorry this area is for families and couples only" as an English song about drugs and sex is playing out loud, and a group of 5 guys are casually chilling by the pool somehow unbothered.

Ya 5aye ana bentor l summer la yeje because I love swimming. I want to come here and enjoy my time at your resort, I won't make a fuss over prices, I always tip w ma bet7arkash bi 7ada. Just me, the water and my headphones.

5ayfenin ma koun "wozze" w et7arkash is that it? wallah I'm super introverted and anti-social.

I know public beaches exist but I shouldn't be shoo'd away from resorts for something this stupid

Rant over.

Ktir Salbe Zombie Energy Drink Skit Rediscovered

I found the Ktir Salbe skit that promoted the old energy drink "Zombie" which played the cranberries in their commercials.

I made a thread not long ago about remembering an energy drink from the early 2010s that played Zombie by the Cranberries in their commercial and I mentioned a ktir salbe skit that promoted it. I was wondering if anyone else remembers it since I couldn't find anything online and it is a stuck memory as it was the first time I got introduced to the cranberries and I was a kid who was into scary stuff like zombies back then, but I finally came across the ktir salbe skit. The drink shows up at 1:45. Nostalgia.

Patriarch Elias El-Howayek and the Founding of Lebanon

Thoughts on Patriarch Elias El-Howayek being recognized today ?

Honest Thoughts :

I mean....

I don't mind him being recognized for contributing to the foundation of Greater Lebanon.

Sa3ad l 3alam bil maje3a w ken dod l ta2ifiye , and he paved the way for the apparition of the modern lebanese state ( whether it's a good or bad thing , ento bit2ariro ).

And before you jump into conclusions , yes , two things can be true at once.

And in this case , him being the found father of the modern lebanese state and its borders , and him letting the French apply the " mandate " ( which is a proper way of saying colonization ) onto us for another 23 years before gaining our real independence.

And as a Howayek myself ( and yes , I'm related to him and other Howayeks like Saadallah Howayek ) , I realized that the deal he struck while in France before the proclamation of Greater Lebanon ( when he met the PM of France ) , resembles the one that the state just signed in 2026.

Both of them have a strong correlation with the idea of a sunk cost fallacy.

And in both cases , we needed to sign the deal , not because it was actually good , but because it guarantees a much better outcome , even if in the first stages , we'll suffer a lot.

Just how the modern state is trying to pick up the burden of Hezbollah's moughamara into the abyss , we unfortunately needed to pick up where the Ottomans left us , in the dirt , by of course them indirectly and directly causing the maje3a.

And I want to quote a small phrase he said , a few months before his passing : "Both national feeling and religion make it an obligation for you to respect and love everybody whatever may be his belief. Reason leads you to fraternize with the person you live with under the same sky and on the same land."

Also another shout-out to Sheikh Mustafa Naja , who was also present in the declaration.

Long Live Lebanon ! 🇱🇧🇱🇧

If you have any photos or memories of the featured village, feel free to share them in the comments. You're also welcome to suggest which village we should explore next.

Today's village is Saghbine

Located on the western slopes of the Beqaa Valley in the West Beqaa District (around 65 km from Beirut), Saghbine overlooks the plains of Beqa'a and lies close to the eastern shores of Lake Qaraoun.

The village has a population of a couple thousand residents, with agriculture remaining the backbone of the local economy, particularly cultivation of grapes, olives and various fruit trees.

The name Saghbine is believed to have ancient Semitic roots, though its exact origin remains uncertain, some sources mentioned the name being of Aramaic origins meaning "Reefs".

Due to its strategic hillside location, the village has been inhabited for centuries and has witnessed the succession of several civilizations, from the Phoenicians and Romans to the Ottomans.

Today, Saghbine is best known for its scenic mountain views, traditional stone houses and its proximity to one of Lebanon's largest freshwater reservoirs making it a popular stop for visitors exploring western Beqa'a.

Syrian Hezbollah Members Fear Return to Syria

Assad Loyalists, Syrian Hezbollah Members Eye Return as Lebanon Grows Unsafe

Warmer rhetoric between Damascus and Beirut, combined with uncertainty over the positions of Syria’s new authorities and Hezbollah’s leadership, has fueled fears of a rapprochement that could come at their expense. Speculation is growing that Hezbollah could withdraw its protection and restrict their security activities.

Syrians under the group’s protection, especially the poorest, fear becoming a “bargaining chip” in talks with Damascus.

As support fades and living conditions worsen, many are looking for safe ways back to Syria or seeking refuge elsewhere.

Hadi is among them.

“Most Syrians can feel the hostile tone toward the new Syrian state easing,” he said. “What was once a red line — approving of any position taken by the ‘Jolani government’ — is now considered normal, as long as it does not affect the sect.”

He has asked relatives in Syria to check whether he faces arrest warrants or legal complaints that could lead to his detention if he returns. Hadi worked with Hezbollah from 2013 until Bashar Assad’s government fell.

Abdel Razzaq, who joined Hezbollah’s security division in the Sayyida Zeinab area outside Damascus, has already sent his family back to Syria.
He did so when the Israeli war in Lebanon began. He remains in Lebanon, uncertain whether to follow them or leave for another country.

For anyone with a clean record, he said, “returning to Syria today is far better than living in poverty and constant fear that we will be handed over to the Lebanese state because we are here illegally.”

That, he said, would mean deportation and prosecution in Syria.

“Many people have completed settlement procedures and returned to normal life,” he added.

Whatever happens, Abdel Razzaq believes people like him will pay the price.

“Whether there is an agreement, or war and Syrian forces enter Lebanon as people keep saying, we will be the scapegoats,” he said. “Most of us live here without official papers from any UN agency or government body.”

If you have any photos or memories of the featured village, feel free to share them in the comments. You're also welcome to suggest which village we should explore next.

Today's village is Zawtar El Sharqiyeh

The village is overlooking the Litani River in the province of Nabatieh (85km from Beirut), it's population exceeds 4,000 most of whom depend on Tobacco farming as their main source of income.

In Aramaic Zawtar means "the small", popular folks also attribute the word to the abundance of grapes as during its past times, the town was known as a wine village selling the famous "Zawtari Wine".

In another likely origin of the name, it is relative to the Phoenician princess called Zouzasit, who lived in the town during the Phoenician period.
