Reduce Discord Spammers with Invite Controls

One problem a lot of people facing is that there are spammers and scammers joining into your Discord. They can come from our server lisitng, but this is by no means just an issue of our servers.

Here's some ideas on what we can do on our side to help with this issues, most of them are related to setups that you can control
- only show your discord invite link to users that are logged in to our server listing page. and we automatically hide the link if the account is 3 month old.
- We can also automatically hide the invite link if this user has been banned form other servers that are using our bot, (we can potentially get this data from our audit log on your discord with our bot).
- We can allow you to write an application and ask users to fill out the applications before they join the Discord. We will use AI to automatically approve or disapprove on the spot to reduce the amount of frictions for users to see this link.

Let me know what you guys think? It goes without saying that any additional frictions that we add WILL FOR SURE reduce the number of users jpining the server, but rather be small and high quality than too big and spammy.

Any thoughts on letting us your server emojis?

We've noticed that Discord emojis is a very big search terms on Google, I am wondering if anyone here feels strongly about us publishing your emojis on your server listing page (positive or negative).

We will allow users to search for emojis and we will properly attribute them to your server.

But I am thinking that we can make this opt out (that means by default, we will publish your emojis unless you want this to be turned off).

Let me know if you have any strong feelings about this!

Prevent Spammy X Replies in CommunityOne

This is probably a web3 issue where some members are farming points and thus making a project tweet's reply look really bad. Clearly, there's no great way to resolve the issues, but here's some potential solutions

  • Pre-filter members:when they connect with their X, we will check their past weets and automatically give them permissions to reply if we think the account is in good standing.
Downside: (1) We will have to charge extra (cuz a lot more extra calls on our side) (2) Members can't earn their way to reply.

  • By default, do not reward users for replies, so only retweet and like. Only allow this option for the special roles, where the server owner get to decide on who gets the roles.
Downside: too much work on the server owner side to maintain this. Also not sure how everyone feels about reducing the comment engagement by default,

  • Another option is to automatically grant them the permissions to reply only after they complete a certain amount of Twitter Quests over a spam of X days, hoopefully they will get a chance to learn a bit about the project before starting to contribute.

Role Allocation not working

Is there any way I can check the Roles to see if they are allocating them to my members because I can see by the leaderboard that they are earning points but they're not being allocated the appropriate role in the server

Discord Quests Not Posting to Channel — Fix Guide

OK so we are having this issue after setting the bot up in another server. I create a custom quest but it doesn't push through to the allocated channel which has been set up and confirmed as ready. However, if a member checks the /quests command they can see the new quest in the list of buttons available. Why is this not showing in the specified channel guys, any idea?
This is the server ID: 882557752529023017

Reset Custom Points Name for Twitter Quests

Hi there, I've been in communication with the AI Agent here and come to the conclusion that my error that is stopping me from setting up my new twitter integration/quests is due to an old points name that i set many months ago - 'Warrior Points'
I would like this resetting please as I only require a basic setup for test purposes for now. I am going to be testing in my current server then once Im happy with how everything works, more than likely going to be adding the bot to a very active server that will probably require premium anyway.

Spark can be spammy

First issue is that Spark can be tagged on general chat excessively and hence disrupt a regular community flow.
Second, the smart response is not very good. It doesnt answer member questions consistently, and sometimes it answers in a way that is disrupting another set of conversations. Maybe a better solution is to use a bot embed message to clearly differentiate in the smart response mode?

Server Listing Stats Explained

Just wanna give you guys a quick rundown on our server stats, and the list of terminology and what it means

  • Views from server listing: it's basically how many people see your servers on communityone.io/servers
This is the equivalent of impression, people see you and they may/maynot click on you.

  • Views on server detail page: people click on your page specifically and check you out carefully

  • Joins: So far the join on your server detail page should be the actual joins that we get from the discord bot invite log.

  • In your performance page, we show a view-t--join ratio: that is number of CLICKS vs number of views. This give you an idea on how attractive your server sounds like so that they click to join. but depending on what happened after they click on it,they might not end up joning in.

I admit that the terminology is kinda of misleading, so we are gonna do some changes and add some explnations on the site

Why Server Listing Views Suddenly Increased

bringing the convosation here.

So if you see a sudden increase in views on your server lisitng page, the data is correct because of the new changes that we pushed last nights.

First, prior to Jan 14, you are seeing the number of views specifically for your dedicated server page, this means that the user has founded you on some places and then clicked on to check your page. This is the most dedicated kind of actions that the users can do before they visit you.

However, another way you can appear on our server is by showing up on our front page, which is determined by a variety of factors, you can see an estimated rank directly from your server detail page. In this case,a user see your server card, see your descriptions and may/maynot click on join directly from the front page. This happens more often than you think and hence we are showing you data from this traffic source as well.

Suppose that you have lots of views on the server listing page, but very few views on the dedicated server detail page. this means that you should work on your first sentence in your server descriptions. People saw you and decided to pass. Work on your themes, work on your banners and icon, they all help in giving users more idea on the kinda of server that you are. for example, this is our own cm1 data

Index Forum Content to 50x Discord Growth

The basic idea is that we will index meaningful specific knowledge discussion points from your Discord to your own server listing so that when someone is searching for "how to make a femboy outfit", your community discussion will be surfaced on top of the google search results. similar to how Reddit work. People can check out your server and then join if they want.

There are two reasons why we want to do this:
First, 50x more people search for questions/contents compare to a server to join, this means that __your server is 50X more likely to be discovered. __
Second, rather than having people just want to join your server for the sake of "joining", you now have people who are interested in what your members are discussing, this means that they will also contribute and hence make your server more interesting.

In terms of privacy protections. here's the proposal
- Posts and contents will be opted in. That means that unless explicitly approved, most messages will stay private. In addition, both the server owner and the post author (OP or comments) will give us explicit approve and can revoke the permissions at ANY POINTs.
- We will anonymize the username in all cases.

Lastly, I'd like to point out that there are existing bot that is doing this right now: https://www.answeroverflow.com/
Servers include Cloudflare, PUBG Mobile (Official), Valorant (Official) are all using this.

AI powered funny welcome messages powered by Spark

right now, people can do private onboarding with Spark, but how about welcome messages on public channels. its a very popular thing that a lot of server do and we can use AI to make it funny so that members can chat back and the mods can responds (or our AI can respond)?

we can also setup different styles of the welcome emssages based on how the server owners are designing their server listing page.

Safety & Moderation Updates for Server Listings

We will protize safety & security issues around our server listing. Our own data shows that it is not a problem for our server listing page so far.. but as we grow, it is a problem facing all server listing sites, here are some action steps that we will take

(1) NSFW reclassification. I understand that there are some servers that are partially age gated, we will allow server owners to self-disclose different degrees of NSFW. It is likely that we will NOT "promote" any servers that are fully NSFW (yet to be finalized)

(2) AI for moderations. Using AI to see if there are any sensitive keywords to either flag or completely de-list a server.

(3) Human minitoring. Allow users to report incidents where a server is NSFW, or illegal in natural and have mecahnism to handle those reports in a timely manner.

(4) We are aware that bot accounts love to use server listing sites to join and spam other discords servers. Since users can join a discord from our site without logging in, this is gonna take a bit efforts to report and flag on a global scales.

We know there are a lot of healthy wholesome servers in relatively sensitive areas, would love to learn how you guys make sure that the server is safe and secure.

We will start working on this issues more comprehensivey during the holiday period.

How We Rank Servers on the Listing Page

Right now, here's our algo for when your server shows up in the front page. Because most server listing traffic happened in the first page, it is quite important to show up there more often.

FWIW, because we use infinitive scroll, we notice that people stay and browse more than an average server listing, but here's a blog we wrote on other server listing: https://blog.communityone.io/best-discord-server-list/

Right now, our algo is composed of two parts. First, we rank the servers who have installed us in the past two weeks and give them a special "boost". We rank the servers based on size, activities, but also on how much info they are providing in the server listing page, so descriptions, categories, banners, profile images, and whether they are giving us announcement and event sync. Every little thing helps to boost your score but nothing makes or breaks it.

After the two weeks boost period, we currently rank servers based on the recent activiies, quite straightforward.

Here's some problems with the current approach
- We want quality to be a factor in determining whether someone should join at all time, last active message is just too simple.
- We also want to give more boost to servers where their admins and owners are really GOOD and care about the servers a lot. I think for me, caring can be detected by the way people talk, how often they show up in their servers, and to some extend, if they have used some of our bot other features.

Here's my thoughts on some new action points:
- first, we now have data on percentage of users joined after viewed and that is an incredible signal, I am thinking of adding this into the weight.
- second, i want to include the admin activity data as a weight factor. We currently show number of admins, but we can do a lot more data around it.
- third, we want to include whether server owners are using at least some of our other features (besides server listing) as a weight factor.
- finally, a uniformed algorithm between the description of the serve and the activities level.

Let me know your thoughts

Analytics Update: Date Range & Live Data

Hey guys! We are about to push out a new version of analytics where you can select a date range.

This is actually a major update on our backend because it requires us to store data live. This also means that once we are able to completely update our backend, we can allow you to directly get the raw data via fast API.

This round of push will be in phases and we will allocate another week for more improvement.

Want to bring everyone who cares about our analytics here so that we can get feedback from one places 🙂

Volunteer Mod Roles and Nitro Reward Pool

Any thoughts on building a speial volunteer mods roles and pool them into a seperate reward pool for hype engine.

for example, for members that is has special voluntter mod role in any server, they can buy special raffle tickets for nitro premium (which gives them 2 boosts), and this is different from regular members.

server owners can appoint up to x amunt of mods for this. ??

also mentioned about this to us as well

Free+ Custom Quests Now Marked Premium?

Hi there,
I've been using the custom quests feature for a good few weeks now as I had the Free+ but I notice in the back office that all my custom quests now state '
Not Published - This quest is for premium only'
Is this correct? Has the Free+ now expired?
