Shadow and Bone is Leigh Bardugo's debut young adult fantasy novel, published in 2012, that kicks off the Shadow and Bone trilogy (followed by Siege and Storm and Ruin and Rising). It follows Alina Starkov, a young soldier in the Russia-inspired nation of Ravka, who discovers she has a rare magical power to summon light, making her the key to destroying the monstrous Shadow Fold that divides her country. She is taken to a magical elite to be trained by the mysterious Darkling, but must navigate court intrigue and her own untamed power to save her nation. A brief overview on how we are going to start book club for the time being, if we change anything, we can decide that in here and update the main post as well.
I'd like to start by...
1) picking out a genre for the month by vote,
2) then we can all throw some ideas into the basket that we'd love to read in this genre (can be one you have read or one you're looking forward to reading, etc.),
3) we'll put it up for vote again (no voting for your own, max two books selected per person)
4) we'll start reading the 1st of the next month (so we are starting this one in April)
5) the book will have its own forum within this channel, you can start talking about it as you're reading, or wait until you're all done
6) have a book club night in week 4 of the month (we'll take a poll later for this) where we can all hop in (https://discord.com/channels/1341210009052385332/1341556410336542731) to talk about it together, and finally...
7) announce the next book for the following month!
If you have any questions, thoughts, suggestions, etc. -- please feel free to DM me!
The Haunting of Hill House is a classic 1959 gothic horror novel by Shirley Jackson about a group of people investigating a notoriously haunted mansion, Hill House, focusing on psychological terror and the blurring lines between supernatural events and the characters' mental states, particularly that of the fragile protagonist, Eleanor Vance. The story follows Dr. Montague, his assistant Theodora, Eleanor, and Luke (the heir) as they experience increasingly disturbing phenomena, with the house seeming to target Eleanor, exploring themes of loneliness, trauma, and the human psyche.
Themes: The story masterfully blurs the line between supernatural events and psychological breakdown, exploring themes of loneliness, trauma, and the human psyche.

I'd love for anyone interested to watch and discuss this with me. It's haunting. It's heavy. It's eerie. And it's only like... 45 minutes from me, so like... who's coming with me?
