An impulse is typically directional and makes progress with the trend. A correction moves against it and can show more overlap. Compare both with the surrounding swings when assessing trend health.

A trend makes directional progress through its swing sequence. A range keeps rotating between support and resistance. Compare the highs, lows and overlap before assuming the next candle will continue in one direction.

A downtrend is described by a sequence of lower swing highs and lower swing lows. Follow both sides of the structure instead of judging one red candle. A change in the swing sequence is a reason to reassess the trend.
