Summary
At Pokémon Champions | VGC Battles & Tournaments, members are collaborating to optimize a dual-mode team featuring Delphox and Chesnaught. The discussion covers EV spreads, move sets, and the strategic viability of balancing Trick Room with speed-based play. This thread provides valuable insights for trainers looking to refine their competitive team synergy and master complex battle strategies.
So here is the deal guys this is the team i was running where I was using 2 mega mode depending on the matchup, so im asking for help with evs and if some moves may be better in your opinion, every single member can come to the battle except that Chesnaught has to go with farigiraf as he is trickroom mode and Delphox as the speed/balance mode if you think another mon would be strict upgrade im very hapy to hear

Elaborate what your strategie is with this team.
If we know that, we can help further and better
tbh is actually pretty nice i was thinking maybe a bulkyer seasler
olso that
So for the trickroom im looking to bring in Chesnaught as safer as possible and let it sweep as he has very nice coverage so even prolonging games is not the problem as constant witching in with incineroar controls the game as i widdle them down and as for Delphox im looking to get in one nasty plot from the safe position to let it sweep like that looking at the current games until now the ead of sneasler delphox guarnees nasty plot
I must say, i see your plan here but your are too inflexible with this.
if you wanna play a team where you have trick room and possibly speedy pokémon.
You should consider using Tailroom.
Which means using Tailwind and Trick room.
And mostly pokémon with a speed around 70 or 80
i mostly either play hard trickroom with chesnaught or balance out the game without it and switching
Playing balance with Hard Trickroom has poor team synergie
To to be recommended.
because, your really too inflexible with both modes in one team.
Let me ask you this:
What would you do against a Charizard Y and Venusaur based team?
Let it be:
Charizard Y
Venusaur
Garchomp
Kingambit
Incineroar
Silveon
it would definetely be trick room with chesnuaght as he ohkos zardy with rock slide, incin gambit with body press, sneasler also beats both incin and gambit even at -1 also is an answer to sylveon with dire claw for gambit it would be incin intimidate cycling plus rotom hydro pump which leaves venosaur that can be owerwhelmed
it would probably be sleep powder venusaur and i think it is playable as its more annoying
you do know that Kingambits standard used ability is defiant?
yes i know
i tell you what i would lead with:
If i had to see your team
My first thought would be ,,Farigiraf for tailroom"
Quickly analizing your team without knowing th specifics would let me pretty much guess that you would run Chestnaught only with farigiraf as its the only slow enough pokémon and potential mega to be paired with trick room (besides incin)
And its 4 times weak to Flying type moves.
I would lead here against you with Charizard Y and Venusaur and have Kingambit with incineroar in the back
Its like this:
If you choose to to lead with Chesnaught and incin
- > Protect Zard, Sleep powder into incin
if the sleep powder hits, your chesnaught is in horrible position
If you lead with Farigiraf and incin/Sneasler to se up trick room
My move would be attacking with heatwave and double focus the farigiraf.
I could go on in more but you allready know what i wanna say.
The team as it is now makes it too obvious what you would do
And that is the core problem of this team since your 2 modes are restricted heavily on specific mons.
ofc you could read correctly and see my plans,
Yet with the viarity of choices i can make its much harder for you to prepare to what in this case i would do, than it would be for me to guess what you would do.
You know?
I think what would be an improvement
I know that farig screams trick room but i was playing against many zards but yes without venu in most cases i have to say i dont have many experience playing against it and i know that doubling into farig wont work it is very bulky many times it failed even when they did
im not sure if the calcs are gnna support me but my experience followed it
Id really like if you can suggest the changes you think will be useful
Well, fair enough
Then you get trick room up
but that also plays sylveon and Kingambit into their hands and sneasler is getting debuffed severly by your own farigiraf. Yet you still wanna use it since both types of sneasler are countering the mons here.
Yk?
Hmmm
Well if you really want my honest suggest
it be firstly to build the team around one of those modes
if you wanna keep the 2 modes
i can think of smth but my help will not be as good since its hard to make it work
You gotta know that
arright
Gotta respect your choices.
btw, do you have any specific matchups you struggle against with this team?
This team is built around mega Golisopod and im waiting for the day it comes in so thats why Chesnaught is here as it replaces Golisopod perfectly for now
or any mons that you noticed are really hard to take down for you?
ohhhhhh
well uh
its neat but idk if its wise to pre build a team for a pokémon you dont know the abilty yet.
The whole way of playing Golisopod may differ based on the abilty.
its built against the current meta so most of the meta picks are fine matchups for one or both modes so im really happy but im not that very good in calcs for delpox and sneasler others are built to survive some hits based on experience
I know but im just trying to get the feel as Golisopod is a bulky slow attacker same as chesnaught so i wanetd to get practice with it so i know at least some things it may want
Hmm ok very well
imma think about what you could do to improve this team
if you maybe think that some othe rmon is more useful im willing to try it
im very very content with it but i know that few tweaks are needed
i mean 10 game winning streak into master ball is not easy
Wdym by ,,Few tweaks"?
some ev changes or moves may need changing
oh i see
ok well
For the time beeing, ik you wanna replicate the feeling of using Golisopod
But until its really out
Try using chesnaught like its chesnaught.
The trick room for it is valid
But the nature is something i would change.
Keep the attack rise but lower the SpA.
i'd honestly suggest not only trying to play like you wanna get better at bringing in Golisopod
But getting better to use the entire team.
Try to ,,mix" the modes
Farigiraf for example doesnt always have to bring up trick room
use it with delphox to abuse armor tail infront of an kingambit
Golisopod in its mega is REALLY bulky
Yet try using mega Chesnaugth to cancel incoming Weather balls
If you learn to use your pokémons less stiff and more mixed up.
You get at the same time, much much better at preparing to use golisopod
replacing Chesnaugth with Golisopod would only exchange one Variable in your team with another, both have different but similar atributes that they bring to the table. Your right at the point that they can be played nearly the same and that makes the strength if you prepare to use the entire team
Long story short:
Try not just hard stuck 2 modes. Try a bit more flexibilty.
Aside from the nature of chesnaught i would not change a thing here since we would ,,test" things first out
Arright?
if your flexibilty doesnt harmonie well, we can work on said factors that you notice are not synergizing well with the rest
The only things that is constant is farig coming with chesnaught the others are flexible to the matchup agaisnt me
Ever considered bringing chesnaught without farigiraf?
I know that chesnaught is not golisopod and im learning how to use him to the fullest trick room feels great with him and im very proud of how it feels
I was thinging about it in some matchups that the farig is not needed i was thinking about it
I think torkoal trickroom with hisuian typhlosion is worst matchup by far
hmm
Well tbh then i dont think the team needs improving
You mix the modes
you have good coverage for many mons
all this team needs is experience then
bcs honestly out of our conversation.
I had a few points that ,,might" be where the team could improve but if you say it works fine by playstyle, then it works
Cuz honestly i would not change any pokémon here for what this team wants to be
I want to hear the points
that is....unique to get against.
Never had that encountered
I want to get better at both team building and vgs in general
yup
one mon has after you plus sleep powder with chlorophyl and torkoal hits like a truck and than there is h typhlosion that just nuked me out of nowhere
my first point was
that it might be better to use one mode for the whole team since your team lets your opponent most likely know what you will do
My second point was
that it might be wise to wait with this team until golisopod is truly out, because its ability will largely determine how it is played and that in specific would eventually not really suit your team
My Third point beeing
Trying to get better overall with this team to not solely rely on Delphox and Golisopod to take the win. Getting better at positioning, thinking many turns ahead, force the enemy to make certain plays etc.
Those are the only points i mentioned
Hm well my guess would be delphox finishing the certain mon that uses after you. Which in most cases will be vileplume
I was trying to play hard trickroom at first and it didnt feel right for me so i was even doing tailwind with mega gardevoir but i didnt like it and than i landed on mawile manectric team with two modes and than was trying to shape it but the core stayed the same with incin farig sneasler as theyt felt best with delphox emerging as the best fast/balance mega and chesnaught as perfect for me as for second point I know it may not suit Golisopod when it comes out but if we were to trust the leaks its ability is tough claws and if that is true it really plays lika wallbreaker in trickroom similarly to chesnaught so i dont think the team would change except probably for few moves that golisopod will cover in the future and the third point id say that most kos are acctualy picked from sneasler/incin/rotom when delpoh doesnt ohko so its great because everyone has a role they fulfil and the team feels great to use
But i still wanted to get help with maybe if some moves need changing
Well certainly not
moves are infe
fine*
the team itslef seems to work
No improvement i could think of then
do you maybe think that evs should change
hm true
sorry its 3 am here where i live
I havent seen on them before
uhh
i understand its 3am for me too
what?
Fr?
yes
U coming near germany or smth?
im from serbia
you ran the calculator for specific matchups for each mon right?
oh that explains it
except for delphox and sneasler no
went full damage on them to ko even from -1 fro snealer
??? especially on delphox i thought u had runned a calculator
only one that dindt ran calc on
hehe
fuck i did ran for something
then honestly, do full speed full SpA there
i think it was -1 no lifeorb garchomp
not sure
come again?
earthquake -1 no life orb garchomp
NO FUCK IT WASNT
SHIT I FORGOIT
I NCANT THINK WHAT WAS IT WAIT
I CANT REMEMBER
dont worry bro. its 3am for us.
Lets sleep for the night and maybe youll remember tomorrow XD
Honestly i think the longer i am wake here, the more my thoughts get foggy XD
Yup i agree
i was mostly worried about sucker punch from gambit but thats not possible to survive
yep, was my first and second thought too
ill see about it in the morning and for now good night bro
Good night pal, sleep well 🤙
Also as I'm running both trick room and balance id really appreciate if someone could provide me with a bit of coaching for some situations
Is it this same team? Or have you built something else
Can help with balance ig, but usually with balance you kinda go with a gut instinct, since you tend to have tools for most teams
Could ya sent the balance team
Yes it's the same team didn't change anything as I'm still debating evs and some moves as I'm on vacation
I think that my Delphox mode is balance version of this team
Both modes can include all 4 supports plus respective mega
My best bit of coaching is if you see kingambit they will lead it because of Incineroar bring Chesnaught
Unless it's yard
Oh ok I get what you mean now. If a team has multiple modes like balance and hard tr, if one of em can encompase the other one then we usually just call em that team archetype
There's just a ton that can happen in two v two games it's kinda hard to coach
So if you have a balance team with a tr mode you still call it a balance team
Yard is the reason Chesnaught has rock slide so I'd bring in the tr mode anyways
Ohhh
I just made one team that can help both Delphox and Chesnaught as they need their different modes trick room for Chesnaught and Balance for Delphox
You could try wide gaurd chessnaught
It's clear your two best modes are gonna be ches + farig or fox + sneasler with the other two being any mix of the other mons
That's the norm but in some match ups mixing up farig with fox into heavy tailwind is fun
Even with speed investment
Think it's gonna be trickroom? Could lead with farig + fox to do big damage and reset trickroom or fox + incineroar to ko
Something I've felt is farig really only needs one attack
How so
Sash sneasler is usually poison touch poison jab
It has so many supporting moves like helping hand, imprison etc
For this team since your farig kinda is just also fuck you trick room why not use roar to not worry about if you just set trick room for the opposing trickroom team
I like roar farig
Lmfao
Lag
No I was mid-typing it. We said it at the same time
So you both agree that roar farig would be better here?
Its fun
I think so, and just keep either twin beam or thunderbolt
I used it for setup mons for a bit, but I switched to curse sinistcha cuz its a bit better for that purpose
What about rotom
But since this is quite literally. Also just your anti-trick room Pokemon while also being your trick room Pokemon, I think that's fine
Do you think that maybe it can change it's moves
Lemme see
I think volt switch is prob better here
I mean the way you have it set up is kind of all right. If anything, I'd get rid of light screen and put volt switch
I see the vision for electro web
So I'd probably than keep thunderbolt as i have psychic damage on Delphox
You also have electric damage. Technically. Stab could be nice
Though both technically work
Twin beam is to bypass Sneasler sash
Ok so how important is rockslide?
It also deals with staraptor
Cuz wide gaurd is cool
Safest dealing with zard
As it stops weather ball
And ohko with rock slide
It lives a super sayan fireball??
Bulletproof negates it
Ohr
My dnite takes like 30% from that sometimes and I go into depression
Wait does bullet proof work on weather ball
Yes it does
Pffft
Its a ball ig
And it lives a heatwave I'd assume
I mean this team feels well thought out
Wait no but then widegaurd is even nicer cuz you can just taunt the yard and prevent it from hitting ya easily
Well off to work
The yard player would be furious at the fact they have a grass mon on the opp field that they can barely touch
It can't get sleep powdered
Even with max hp max spd it's guaranteed
Wait the heatwave ohkos?
Yes

Then rockslide aint gonna be that useful ngl
Can't ohko yard if ya are dead
Lead ches with farig set up tr
Ches protects
And if they target the farig?
Depends on what
With *
Well I assume a weather ball + like any one of the broken attacks the other mons be using will ohko
Than new idea i just thought off lead farig incin parting shot into trick room
Never tried it before
Oh the incin farig lead
Thats fairly safe
But incin will parting after the other mons move so ya prob wanna fake out then set up tr and parting shot out, although that is a bit passive
