Optimizing Trick Room Rain Teams | Pokémon VGC Strategy

Summary

The Pokémon Champions | VGC Battles & Tournaments server community dives into a deep analysis of a hybrid Trick Room and Rain team. Members discuss optimizing core synergies, replacing underperforming units like Swampert or Sinistcha, and testing alternatives like Rhyperior and Rotom to counter threats like Charizard Y. This collaborative teambuilding session highlights the strategic depth required to balance dual-mode teams in competitive VGC play.

Have been using this team with both trick room and rain as options and it works fairly well but I feel like it is not optimised and would definetely need improvements, a matchup this struggles with is Zard Y if i don't manage to get up trick room. Help please 🙏

quickjester-17

Idk I really don't like Swampert in tr mainly because of swift swim. Alright to start swamp or use it like a alt mode

tidycomet-49

don't see alot of those

tidycomet-49

I'm guessing trick room is when they bring mawile

tidycomet-49

Having 2 trick room setters seems a bit much

@tidycomet-49 uhhh offensive incin
noblecipher-12 OP

yeah ik catches many by surprise

noblecipher-12 OP

picks up a lot of kos with that coverage

@tidycomet-49 Having 2 trick room setters seems a bit much
noblecipher-12 OP

hmm yeah out of all sinistcha is the one i use all

noblecipher-12 OP

trick room could also be used with swampert since i havent invested in speed

noblecipher-12 OP

so he could be in rain/trick room

@noblecipher-12 so he could be in rain/trick room
tidycomet-49

scarf rotom seems like it could fit well here instead of sinischa
let's you have another pivot so you can spam earthquake
if you use wash you have boosted hydro pumps
but heat also works for a fire resist
and a stab thunderbolt is pretty reliable for taking out Charizards from my experience of using it

noblecipher-12 OP

yeah rotom was an option I was considering but with wash I'd have 3 water types and with ehat 2 fire types plus would he work with rain?

noblecipher-12 OP

or lowkey tyrantrum could work in trick room

noblecipher-12 OP

but dont know how usable he is 🤔

@noblecipher-12 or lowkey tyrantrum could work in trick room
tidycomet-49

wouldn't rhyperior be better since it's bulkier hits harder and slower

tidycomet-49

i got distracted by the kids and lost my train of thought

@tidycomet-49 wouldn't rhyperior be better since it's bulkier hits harder and slower
noblecipher-12 OP

ooh yeah didn't look at rhyperior

noblecipher-12 OP

he could actually work

noblecipher-12 OP

tending to a bit too hard trick room

noblecipher-12 OP

but might as well try

@tidycomet-49 i got distracted by the kids and lost my train of thought
noblecipher-12 OP

thank you for the help regardless

steadyknight-96

2 words: araquinid entrainment. It makes Swampert Wave Crashes even stronger and makes it slow enough for trick room, araquinid can also provide support with Wide Guard which also synergizes well with earthquake
