Lucius Pygmalion the Elder left behind more than a name.
He left wealth.
Titles.
Standing within the Senate.
Three elder sons.
And Galatea.
The Elderโs will commanded that Galatea be dismantled after his death. His sonsโRichard, Brendan, and Gary Pygmalionโprevented that sentence from being carried out.
But they did not free her.
Together, they altered their fatherโs final command so that Galatea would remain the lawful property of House Pygmalion.
Death became inheritance.
Possession became policy.
The three brothers regarded Galatea as the most valuable treasure remaining within their house. Each believed that bloodline granted him a right to her. They shared their claim when unity protected the familyโs interests and fought among themselves whenever one desired greater control.
Their rivalry was never a debate over Galateaโs personhood.
It was a struggle over ownership.
House Pygmalion concealed this captivity beneath respectable language. The brothers spoke of duty, lineage, inheritance, and law. Their wealth remained intact. Their titles remained recognized. Their standing within the Senate gave their claim the appearance of legitimacy.
Galatea was alive.
The law treated her as an estate.
The distinctions between Richard, Brendan, and Gary mattered less than the decision they made together. Whatever else separated the three brothers, each accepted the same belief:
That another person could be inherited.
They did not originate the Elderโs corruption. They inherited itโand strengthened it. Where their father had attempted to make possession eternal through destruction, his sons discovered that possession could survive through institutions.
A sealed document could conceal cruelty.
A respected name could make captivity appear orderly.
A law could remain lawful while denying the existence of the person beneath it.
Later Holman memory associated the three heirs with desire stripped of recognition: the impulse to possess beauty, command affection, and call control a form of love.
Their names were preserved not to grant them grandeur, but accountability.
Richard Pygmalion.
Brendan Pygmalion.
Gary Pygmalion.
Three heirs.
Three claims.
One living person whom none of them chose to see.
The Elder had ordered Galatea destroyed.
His sons chose to preserve her possession.
The command changed.
The sin remained.
