I'm starting this series as a tribute to Lebanon, where I'll be highlighting a different village in each post along with its history, unique facts and local stories whenever available.
If you have any photos or memories of the featured village, feel free to share them in the comments. You're also welcome to suggest which village we should explore next.
Today's village is Zawtar El Sharqiyeh
The village is overlooking the Litani River in the province of Nabatieh (85km from Beirut), it's population exceeds 4,000 most of whom depend on Tobacco farming as their main source of income.
In Aramaic Zawtar means "the small", popular folks also attribute the word to the abundance of grapes as during its past times, the town was known as a wine village selling the famous "Zawtari Wine".
In another likely origin of the name, it is relative to the Phoenician princess called Zouzasit, who lived in the town during the Phoenician period.

No it doesn't matter which foreign leader,
No it doesn't matter who the citizen being summoned supports,
No Hassan Bazzi does not support Hezbollah and no that shouldn't matter either.

The US State Department said operations had started in “pilot zones” in Froun, Srifa and Zawtar Al-Gharbiya “in accordance with the Trilateral Framework and under the auspices of the Military Coordination Group for Lebanon.”
Hezbollah has rejected the framework, with the Iran-backed group insisting any arrangement in Lebanon be linked to wider negotiations between Washington and Tehran. It has not said whether it will resist implementation in the designated areas.
The agreement does not set a timetable for Israel’s withdrawal.
Israeli officials have also vowed that their forces will remain in a “security zone” 10 kilometers (six miles) deep along the frontier for as long as Hezbollah remains armed.
A Lebanese military source told AFP that troops had begun intensifying patrols in several villages adjacent to areas occupied by Israeli forces in southern Lebanon, including Froun.

In recent days, Hezbollah has sharply escalated its confrontation with the Lebanese authorities, particularly the presidency, ahead of President Joseph Aoun's visit to Washington.
At the same time, however, Hezbollah has continued to avoid direct confrontation with the Lebanese Army's leadership, despite previously warning that it would treat any party attempting to disarm it by force in the same way it treats the Israeli military.
After Hezbollah MP Hassan Fadlallah used the parliamentary podium earlier this week to launch a sharp attack on President Joseph Aoun, accusing him of "becoming a political actor who deepens divisions among the Lebanese instead of serving as president and a symbol of national unity," fellow Hezbollah lawmaker Ali Fayyad said on Friday that "the problem with this government has become serious, very serious. The bridges with it have been severed, the possibility of reaching an understanding no longer exists, and the consequences will not be favorable.
Hilal Khashan, professor of political science at the American University of Beirut, said the available indications suggest that "Hezbollah is preparing for confrontation and that the next phase will be extremely difficult and dangerous." He added that concerns over divisions within the Lebanese Army if it were forced into a confrontation with Hezbollah are well founded and that the consequences of such a decision should not be underestimated.
Ali Al-Amin, political writer and editor-in-chief of the Janoubia news website, argues that Hezbollah "is not operating as a Lebanese political party concerned with the national considerations that shape the president's positions on negotiations, Lebanon's foreign relations, or the country's security. Hezbollah today is, in effect, part of Iran's Revolutionary Guard, and its position toward President Joseph Aoun reflects Iran's position toward him."

The Lebanese presidency had announced on Monday that its delegation to Rome had been instructed "to demand the immediate start of Israeli forces' withdrawal from the two pilot zones before any further discussion".
AFP journalists saw delegation vehicles entering the US embassy compound in the heart of Rome under tight security on Tuesday morning ahead of the talks, while the embassy declined to comment when asked.
According to a Lebanese diplomatic source familiar with the content of the talks, "the Lebanese army is ready to gradually take control of the localities from which the Israeli army would withdraw".
But Hezbollah rejects the agreement outright despite Lebanese government pressure, lowering expectations of success in the negotiations.
Orna Mizrahi of the Institute for National Security Studies (INSS) in Tel Aviv said Israel was "willing to withdraw gradually", but on the condition that "that there will be no presence of Hezbollah in the areas that Israel is withdrawing from".
She added that Israel also seeks to ensure "that the Lebanese army will have the ability... to keep it as a neutralised zone and a neutralised place that Hezbollah cannot come in again."
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar said Tuesday that his country was "ready to move forward implementing these two pilot zones".
"I hope and tend to believe that this round of discussions in Rome will promote it."

had titanium plates and screws removed after my fracture healed (about 8 months ago) and they've just been sitting with me since. I have all the medical documentation proving they're mine from the removal surgery.
A few questions if anyone has insight:
I'm mainly trying to figure out my actual options rather than assuming anything. Any leads, buyers, recyclers, or even just "don't bother, it's not worth it" appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Since the Lebanon ceasefire is tied to Iran now, I’m worried that the latest blow up over Hormuz will either result in Israel hitting Beirut or Hezbollah doing another “in solidarity with Iran”

It's a female and as small as your palm hand
Her siblings died and mother apparently abandonned her.
She's a bit skittish and shy but likes to follow people around.
Note: if no one will take her she probably won't survive. I feed her everyday but somehow her siblings dissapeared so I expect she'll dissapear as well.

Ahmad Al Assir is out next, and nothing will stop the overwhelming amount of burried evidence that will emerge with it proving how the LAF back then was merely a tool in Amal and HA's hands. Who initiated abra's battle? And what was Al Assir asking from day one.

I'm Lebanese Shia, born in Beirut, but I have a South American passport and my UAE residence is on it. Been living here 5 years, valid work visa with a multinational, clean record, no political affiliations whatsoever.
For context I'm a guy in my early 20s. In these 5 years I've gone back and forth to Lebanon at least 10 times and never had a single issue. Never got stopped or questioned, all my entries and exits were smooth.
I'm in the UAE right now and planning to go visit my parents in Lebanon next week, but with everything happening in the region I'm honestly nervous about coming back in after. It's not the Lebanese part that worries me, it's more the Shia part and whether that gets you flagged these days even with a clean record. I'm not even practicing, it's just the name and background at this point. Maybe the foreign passport helps, maybe it doesn't matter at all if they're going by names, I really don't know.
Thing is my whole life is here. Job, bank account, apartment, car. Getting denied entry after a short trip would be a disaster for me.
Has anyone traveled recently and made it back in fine? Or heard of anyone having issues at the airport? Any info helps.

Israel can invade and stay in southern Lebanon. But, similar to their last stay, they can't remain. Even more so now with the presence of FPV drones. Netanyahu knows this, but he's doing what his support base wants up until the elections, if hezbollah is never disarmed, they'll have to leave. However, if hezbollah is to be disarmed, there will never be a reason for them to leave lebanon.

I have ADSL internet and the speed is around 10 Mbps. I have been watching the matches on free live streaming websites like www.ntv.cx and I set the quality to 540p. Sometimes it works ok and it chops for a bit and then it comes back but often it misbehaves and I have to keep on refreshing the page and trying different sources until it works in the end.
I am considering watching the semi final matches and the final match on TOD on my laptop. Will it work ok on my ADSL internet? Can i choose the video quality? I want to be able to keep on lowering the quality until it plays smoothly.
