I would say that the most you can do is be yourself. Because people who actually want to be your friend will be your friend because of who you are

8 year old friendship here, and honestly we were not even thinking about it we were just suddenly friends and now we talk once or twice a month to get updated on each other's life and still the same amount of interest and comfort, however I do feel that making friends has become a lot more harder as I proceed towards adulthood (dk if it's just me or a general experience) as I grew up I realised that whenever I'm taking stand for myself, prioritizing my mental peace or even trying to make people realise their own faults I suddenly become the "bad guy" and get thrown Outta groups, people have genuinely normalised being fake and talking behind backs rather than being true to themselves and everyone around
