The first STRATO Odds Trading Competition is officially wrapping up.

Glamsterdam is coming

Ethereum’s next major upgrade just cleared another key test.

Glamsterdam is designed to expand L1 capacity, improve block processing and prepare Ethereum for significantly more onchain activity. The Sepolia test is now set for October 6.

JUST IN: The Fed just raised rates by 25 bps, its first hike since 2023.

The important part isn’t the 25 bps itself. Markets had largely priced that in.

What matters now is the path forward.

Persistent inflation, elevated energy prices and resilient economic activity have pushed monetary policy back toward tightening. Higher-for-longer rates mean tighter financial conditions, more pressure on risk assets and a higher opportunity cost for holding non-yielding assets.

For gold, the picture is more nuanced: higher real rates are a headwind, but persistent inflation, fiscal pressure and macro uncertainty continue to support the broader monetary case for hard assets.

Gold and silver are moving higher ahead of tonight’s Federal Reserve decision.

Gold is up more than 1% around $4,348 per ounce, while silver has gained roughly 1.8% to $64.78. The move comes as the dollar weakens, Treasury yields ease from recent highs and oil retreats toward $107.

Markets are broadly expecting a 25bp rate hike, but the bigger question is what the Fed signals next.

Higher rates normally pressure precious metals by increasing the return on interest-bearing assets. At the same time, gold continues to benefit from geopolitical risk, persistent US fiscal deficits and broader concerns around long-term purchasing power.

That leaves markets in an unusual position: inflation risk remains elevated, borrowing costs are high, yet both gold and silver are strengthening into the decision.

Tonight’s guidance may matter more than the hike itself.

US markets are entering an important policy week as higher energy prices, rising Treasury yields and renewed inflation concerns begin to converge.

The US 10-year Treasury yield has moved above 5%, while oil remains above $100 as geopolitical tensions continue to support energy prices. That combination is significant because higher energy costs can feed directly into inflation, while higher Treasury yields increase the cost of capital across the economy. Borrowing becomes more expensive for consumers, companies and governments, leaving markets increasingly focused on the Federal Reserve’s next policy decision.

At the same time, the US Senate failed to advance the CLARITY Act, delaying one of the most important attempts to establish a clearer market structure for digital assets. The legislation is intended to provide greater certainty around how digital assets are classified and how oversight should be divided between the SEC and CFTC.

The failed vote is a setback in timing rather than a reversal in direction. The broader push for clearer crypto regulation in the United States remains intact, supported by continued political pressure, industry demand and regulatory efforts to define a more workable framework for digital asset markets.

The result is an increasingly important contrast. Traditional markets are dealing with a higher cost of capital and renewed inflation pressure, while digital asset markets continue to wait for the regulatory certainty needed to support deeper institutional participation.

For both markets, policy remains the dominant variable.

JUST IN: The UK’s Financial Conduct Authority is seeking industry input on the tokenization of gold.

The regulator is examining how tokenized gold could improve the way the asset is traded, transferred, held and pledged as collateral across UK financial markets.

This is a significant development for the onchain hard-asset market.

Gold is already one of the world’s largest stores of value. Bringing ownership and settlement onchain creates an additional financial layer around that asset: faster transferability, programmable settlement and the ability to integrate gold directly into collateral and lending markets.

That is where tokenization becomes more than simply putting gold onchain.

It turns a historically passive asset into financial infrastructure.
