Had Lebanon been bargaining chip for Iran, we'd have a deal long ago.

I mean, clearly hezbollah uses residential areas as battlegrounds and stores weapons on residential buildings.

Anyone else worries that if these negotiations collapse and no deal emerges that satisfies both sides, we could see a much wider war?
My concern is that Israel may escalate by expanding strikes far beyond the current scope in an attempt to increase internal pressure on Hezbollah and the broader Lebanese population. In that scenario, nowhere would truly feel safe :v
We've seen them use this approach before, (the "Dahiya Doctrine)" the idea of using overwhelming force and damage to civilian infrastructure to create deterrence and pressure. If tensions continue to rise, there's no guarantee such tactics would remain limited to Dahieh or any specific area. Like they can literally target any place and say "khezbollah was there". Imagine the terror??
Whatever your political views are, the prospect of another full-scale war is really frightening. The human cost would be enormous and as always the people would once again be the ones paying the price.

I’m Lebanese. But since I’ve never lived in Lebanon, my perception might be limited.
I’ve seen comments here saying a few times that the Lebanese Army is mostly Shia or basically close to Hezbollah. But that’s honestly not the impression I’ve had from what I’ve seen in Lebanon or from my own interactions with military there.
To me, the army always felt more like a national institution that’s trying to do what it can with what little it has, especially given the state Lebanon has been in.
So I’m genuinely curious: is there any actual basis for that claim? Are there reliable numbers on the sectarian makeup of the army, especially between regular personnel, officers & senior command?
Not trying to start sectarian drama. I’m just trying to understand if this is true, exaggerated or just one of those things people repeat online.

It has come to our attention that an SSNP idiot who was temporarily banned yesterday from r/lebanon has posted elsewhere claiming that they were banned for "criticizing the Prime Minister of Lebanon."
That is false.
The ban was not issued because this tool criticized the Prime Minister or any public official. Criticism of politicians happens daily on this subreddit, and this is what the essence of most posts are. Disagreement is not an exception, it is the norm.
The actual reason for the ban was a specific comment in which this buffoon explicitly argued that “the only solution is for the Lebanese state to dissolve,” described Lebanese as being self-hating, described our identity as being a "zionist colonial anti-self identity," whatever the fuck that word salad means, and called for a political project aimed at completely dissolving Lebanon and for us to be ruled by a broader Arab imperially ideological project.
That is not ordinary political criticism. That is advocacy for the erasure of our country as a sovereign entity and the delegitimization of our Lebanese identity itself.
Our subreddit is called r/lebanon. Heated debating is baked in our DNA. We allow harsh criticisms, unpopular opinions, and attacks on our political class. But we draw the line at calling for Lebanon to stop existing. We will never allow anyone to use this subreddit to disrespect us as people, dismiss us as a nation, or deny our proudly distinct identity, our rich history, our culture or our right to exist.

Honest question, the more I think about it, the more it appears we are doomed for a very long time with no way out. We all know there’s no way hezb will give up their weapons. Israel internal politics shows theres no sign of them slowing down or stopping and a huge animosity is growing between pro-peace and anti-peace Lebanese.
The south is gone and we don’t have money to rebuild and people are dying everyday.
It’s a horrible tragedy unfolding and I’m struggling to figure out how it can get better.
What do you think is a realistic solution?

Yet again, sur was hit. Sur is mostly amal and doesn't have a big hezb presence, yet it has been normalized to hit it over and over again as if it's the new Dahiyah. Israel lose soldiers and put their angers on a city that has nothing to do with their losses. The dirtiest way to fight a war, punishing civilains that have nothing to do with the war.

lsraeI always claimed it is fighting only hezboIIah, not us, that is we are not an enemy or party in this war, which is what many of us find acceptable as a fuckin colonial entity fights an lranian proxy, let them fuck each others to death.
Yet the main lsraeIi target is not hezb, it is us; civilians, paramedics, journalists, and even army soldiers. We should realize They made us a party and enemy by targeting and killing our families, we cant just sit idle and pretend it is not happening or they cant be lying.
The most proper punishing retaliation is us volunteering to join the fight against the lsraeIi invasion in south (intentionally) along side hezboIIah, the point isnt military effectiveness — obviously we are not militarily match to either hezboIIah or lsraeI, the point is invalidating the lsraeIi belief and terror doctrine of “we kill more lebanese families = they turn more against HezboIIah & shias” until the ultimate goal of erupting civil war where lebanese people kill each others & lsraeI get a chance for a free resistanceless land grab like syria.
The worst decision we ever made was rewarding this policy — many of us (including myself) wasnt aware of this b/c of how much we hate hezboIIah, i (and many others) unintentionally incentivized lsraeI to keep murdering more of our families. despite how much we hate hezboIIah, we should have demonstrated that this policy would only result in the opposite of their desired outcome and break it for good.

"Lebanese graduate Leen Ezzeddine delivered a powerful speech at Harvard Medical School’s 2026 graduation ceremony, reflecting on war, displacement, and the unequal realities shaping access to education and medicine.
She recalled learning medicine in the US while a US missile destroyed her family home in southern Lebanon, contrasting her experience with that of Palestinian and Lebanese medical students forced to study under drones and amid bombed hospitals.
'We were told to stay silent as Gaza unfolded before us,' she said, accusing universities of promoting principles such as health equity and human rights only when they are 'politically convenient'.”
