I'm not going to elaborate, this is a social experiment. I want to see how this unfolds.

Good for who?

uh humans

@hazelguitar-50 uh humans
quickbadger-36

Oh. Maybe for some people

quickbadger-36

I don't see why I need to be modest

gentlecomet-37

"Modesty is the quality of not being too proud or boastful about yourself, your abilities, or your achievements, as well as a standard of propriety in dress, speech, and conduct." - Webster

Modesty is probably a good trait to have when you look at it through the lens of how you conduct yourself, but it's too broad a term to call it unequivocally good. It's a good virtue not to be boastful, but I wouldn't say it is virtuous or highly moral to dress with a bit of skin showing.

Yeah I agree. Have you written the last statement right?
Do you mean to say that it isn't virtuous to wear a bit of revealing clothing?

@hazelguitar-50 Yeah I agree. Have you written the last statement right? Do you mean to say that it isn't virtuous…
gentlecomet-37

I mean to say that not wearing revealing clothing isn't necessarily virtuous. Virtue implies a high moral standard, so calling modesty a virtue would suggest that immodesty falls short of that standard. However, I don't believe that wearing revealing clothing is inherently immoral or reflects a lack of virtue. I see it simply as a form of expression, which is why I hesitate to classify modesty itself as a virtue.

gentlecomet-37

The term is just too broad

hazelguitar-50 OP

I see. I agree with most of the part, but one thing id like to mention about revealing clothing is that it depends on the reason why you wear said clothing.
I'd firstly like to mention that yes it's their choice and I have no say in it, but if they wear revealing clothing for others than for themselves, then I think there's a problem. Not for me, but for themselves. Heck I don't care what others do lol.
I think the problem is in seeking external validation and attention a lot rather than the clothing itself. So I agree that modesty in clothing doesn't really mean virtuous. Id consider a strong and a virtuous person to be someone who doesn't seek external validation or attention at all.

gentlecomet-37

I agree with you. It was just a very general question so I didn't want to say "Yes, it is" if there was something I could see not aligning with what I believe.

quickbadger-36

I don't think modesty is why they don't know that. It's more like society deem that inappropriate. Guys can do that in some places but not everywhere I guess

quickbadger-36

An there is a reason for that besides modesty

@gentlecomet-37 I agree with you. It was just a very general question so I didn't want to say "Yes, it is" if there…
hazelguitar-50 OP

I understand you yeah. I want to see what others think so I'll just let it be for now and 💤

gentlecomet-37

Modesty, from what I understand, is a highly cultural term because you're talking about things like conduct, style, and the way you speak. All of which can vary across cultures.

quickbadger-36

Well. That's not up to me to decide I guess

quickbadger-36

Hmm. How do I explain it, one the issue of what those parts represent people can see it in an inappropriate manner which is just a natural reaction but for guys walking without chess is usually fine since it's not something one would you know

quickbadger-36

I'm part of society but I'm not a lady

quickbadger-36

And also yeah they do stay without tops in their home for some people

quickbadger-36

Maybe.

quickbadger-36

Shirts lol

quickbadger-36

Yeah.

quickbadger-36

That's if you are trying to apply the term to dressing

quickbadger-36

But still wouldn't agree with it

quickbadger-36

Decent is a more appropriate term

quickbadger-36

I think so in this situation they are similar in a way

quickbadger-36

A modest wear can be decent or not maybe

quickbadger-36

Well. I said maybe:r_kermitcorner: . I will try to check online for the comparison btw those two terms and examples in this case

@quickbadger-36 A modest wear can be decent or not maybe
gentlecomet-37

I'd agree. The definition mentions modesty as adherence to a standard of dress, so if the standard is to go about naked, and as Shai mentioned, without the goal of attaining attention from others, then a person walking around naked is technically being modest.

quickbadger-36

They are similar bit different

gentlecomet-37

Decency and Modesty are both stated in reference to a standard.

quickbadger-36

Decency is more like related to social standards and what's acceptable by public while modesty is mostly personal (like avoiding to draw attention to ones body by picking something losser or something like that) and yeah something can be modest and indecent and also the other way round
