Hey all, it's my first ever attempt to build a team from scratch and decided to build one for the upcoming Mega Evolution Battle Competition. I'm aware that the team is quite setup-reliant, so it definitely isn't a finished product as I didn't do EVs yet.

Currently most concerned about Mega Raichu Y and Mega Salamence. I'm also unsure whether the team has enough immediate offensive pressure and whether I'm covering the expected threats.

I'm treating this as a learning experience so I'm very open to suggestions. Any feedback is highly appreciated.

If you want to go for a sand, I don't get why you're not using excadrill

rapidorange-18

chesnaught feels very out of place too

emberisland-78 OP

Chesnaught was mainly for coverage, but I'm open to replacing it with Excadrill. Having both a fast Sand Rush mode and a slower Trick Room mode with Mega Steelix sounds more viable. My main concern is the overlapping weaknesses between Ttar, Steelix and Excadrill. Would you change anything in the remaining slots for that?

emberisland-78 OP

Tried to improve the team a bit with some help. I've landed on this now: https://pokepast.es/bc6461405c65f0f0

Unsure about the EVs as I'm not experienced with it at all. Doubting if I should make my ttar jolly instead of adamant and not really convined bout the natures and spreads on both support mons.

royalcloud-73

why base ttar

royalcloud-73

you lose the ability to replace sand on mega in opposing weather wars and lose out on damage going chople

emberisland-78 OP

I had a mega stone to begin with, but felt like I lacked answers for overlapping weaknesses that ttar, steelix and excadrill have. That's why I swapped it away and went with mega meganium.

royalcloud-73

well yeah

royalcloud-73

your megas arent the answer for coverage

royalcloud-73

can you start by explaining to me what these mons are in the team for?

royalcloud-73

slowbro sableye and both megas just dont fit the sand core at all

emberisland-78 OP

Steelix as trick room attacker
Ttar as weather enabler and possible setup sweeper
Sableye as disruptor and screen setter due to the bulky nature of my other mons
Slowbro as trick room setter. Decent bulk should keep him on the field quite long
Excadrill for a fast sand mode
Mega Meganium for mainly to cover for weaknesses and possible Golisopod/Scizor as I don't really have an answer for that without it.

royalcloud-73

in this setup no matter the mega you have to bring sand which means youre kinda locked into exca. meganiums ability lets it ignore weather so its built to sit in rain. steelix is okay in sand but three of the mons dont want to sit in trick room there are MUCH better trick room setters than slowbro sableye isnt the only prankster setter for screens

emberisland-78 OP

I'm open to recommendations. Just treating this as a learning experience as it's my first attempt to build something from scratch.

royalcloud-73

the problem you have here is you arent asking yourself what the best in slot is. lots of new builders do it

royalcloud-73

if its me i decide what megas i want to play. then if i want weather i determine best there. terrain after and the slots start to expose themselves

royalcloud-73

youre really phys heavy so bulky mons that are only weaker to special you will struggle with here as well.

royalcloud-73

lets take sableye

emberisland-78 OP

What do you exactly mean by that? I started out with a sand core and tried to build around it. I don't see terrain being dominant in the tourney so didn't really account for that.

royalcloud-73

yeah ill help explain

royalcloud-73

so lets say you decided on sand core that means you NEED ttar mega

royalcloud-73

the ability to mega and reset sand is game changing

royalcloud-73

if peli swaps in on you you can just mega and they have to cycle

royalcloud-73

now you want screens and you landed on sableye

royalcloud-73

prankster has access to supporting moves as well

royalcloud-73

then you ask who can do this job better

royalcloud-73

grimmsnarl comes to mind

royalcloud-73

still prankster still sets screens

royalcloud-73

but is fairy typing so gives you coverage you lack into dragon types

emberisland-78 OP

Peli and grimsnarl aren't eligible pokemons for the tourney tho.

royalcloud-73

then what mons are

royalcloud-73

where is the list

emberisland-78 OP

https://www.serebii.net/pokemonchampions/onlinecompetitions/megaevolutionbattle.shtml

emberisland-78 OP

Only pokemon that can mega evo are eligible.

royalcloud-73

oh OH

royalcloud-73

royalcloud-73

lemme cook here

emberisland-78 OP

Sorry if I didn't communicate that properly enough 😅

royalcloud-73

eh its noon here been up for like a day and a half its all good lemme think

royalcloud-73

ttar and exca

royalcloud-73

salamence

royalcloud-73

garchomp

royalcloud-73

gengar

royalcloud-73

then yeah sableye

royalcloud-73

eh

royalcloud-73

balance over tw maybe

royalcloud-73

can go uh

emberisland-78 OP

Mence and ttar as mega options?
