Morocco banned 10 of Lebanon’s chess champions in the children’s category from participating in the Arab Championship held there, after the state refused to grant them travel visas. Authorities stated that “the family knows the reason”
I contacted the family of two of the players, who stated that the visa refusals were due to the children's Shia affiliation — a circumstance reportedly shared by the other eight affected players
