What are Water Nukes
Water Nukes are the new gamemode in openfront, where if you nuke something, it becomes water, and it will fill up with water and u can boat across it. So far it has been very fun and execiting , and enjoyed by most people as you have seen in the polls made in the main openfront server. This has brought some chaotic games, with large rivers made between everyone and stuff like mirvs are just crazy.
How did this start
This recount is made by Valentino himself
On the night of the 23rd of March 2026, a mod named Valentino fell asleep and found himself playing Openfront on the box map. Nothing unusual about that, except for one thing. The nukes weren't destroying land. They were flooding it. Water was swallowing the map whole, reshaping everything in real time. It felt, by his own words, like a fever dream.
He woke up and did what anyone would do with an idea they couldn't shake. He told someone.
That someone was Pilkey. Her first response wasn't about game balance or map design. It was: "why do you dream of Openfront 😭"
Valentino found that very funny. But Pilkey, once past the amusement, was honest with him. She liked the idea. She just didn't think it was possible. The game's technical design didn't allow for terrain modification mid-game. The maps simply weren't built for it.
