it, Yazid ibn Mu'awiyah invaded the lands of the Romans until he reached Constantinople. With him were a group of the leading Companions, including: Ibn Umar, Ibn Abbas, Ibn al-Zubayr, and Abu Ayyub al-Ansari. It is established in Sahih al-Bukhari (1) that the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, said: "The first army [of my nation] to invade the city of Caesar will be forgiven." This army was the first to invade it, and they did not reach it until they were exhausted. In it (2) Abu Ayyub Khalid ibn Zayd al-Ansari died.

846 - Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Matar and Zakariya ibn Yahya told me that Abu Talib told them: I asked Abu Abdullah, "Who said, 'May God curse Yazid ibn Mu'awiya?'" He said, "I will not speak about this." I said, "What do you say? For the one who said it is a man of no reproach (1), and I am inclined to agree with your opinion." Abu Abdullah said, "The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, 'Cursing a believer is like killing him (2),' and he said, 'The best of people are my generation, then those who follow them (3),' and Yazid was among them. He also said, 'Whoever you curse or insult, let it be a mercy for him (4),' so I see that remaining silent is preferable to me (5)."

"Ubaydullah ibn Ziyad (l.a) says: As for my killing of Husayn (a.s), the matter was such that Yazid ordered me to either kill him (Imam Husayn (a.s)) or be killed myself (if I refused), so I chose to kill him."

Ibn Hibban says in his book โ€œAs-Suqatโ€, Volume 2, Page 313: Then the captive women and children from the Ahlul Bayt of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) were put on bare camels with their hair open and brought to Damascus in this manner. When they placed their heads in front of Yazid ibn Muawiyah, he began to pull out his teeth with the stick in his hand, saying: โ€œWhat beautiful teeth he has!โ€

Was the blessed head of Imam Hussein (a.s.) sent to Yazid? (Ibn Kathir)
The person who will answer this question is the great scholar and great hafiz Ibn Kathir . In the book โ€œal-Bidayah wan-Nihayahโ€, volume 8, page 285, he says:

As for the head of al-Husayn (may God be pleased with him), it is well-known among historians and biographers that Ibn Ziyad sent it to Yazid ibn Mu'awiyah, though some people have denied this . In my opinion, the first account is more widely accepted, but God knows best

So, Ibn Kathir clearly states that the popular opinion among historians and scholars of history is that Ibn Ziyad (may Allah be pleased with him) sent the blessed head of the Prophet to the accursed Yazid. This is what is popular. Whoever denies this has spoken contrary to what is popular. The word shazz (the opposite of famous) also has no credibility. As we have said many times before, praise be to Allah for the unity of the Shiites and Sunnis.
