Made it to master ball with this team! It is a lot of fun & a little cheesy 🧀🧀.
The goal is to set trick room with oranguru & then use instruct to farm flinches or double drop bombs. There is a noticeable lack of protect. My goal is to last long enough to set trick room twice with Guru. If that happens I feel I have a pretty good chance at victory.
Abundant Rock Slide > for charizard y/pelliper teams & the surprising amount of double flinches it yields with instruct.
Solar Beam > need for mega swampert. Also has come in handy against a lot of Bascu.
Body Press > even without defense EV , hits quite hard with Torkoal base defense. Has K.O. a lot of maushold & Kanga on my climb.
Non mega Gorlurk iron fist build > I like Drain punch being a 1hko bomb that restores my health bar. I ran mega for awhile in Ultra Ball and did not like it.
So my biggest question would be WHERE on this hyper offense trick room team would YOU like to see Protect?
Next question is where could I go to learn how to optimize the EV's on my specific team?
Favorite way to run the team that took me to master ball :
Oranguru / Hatterne
Mawile / Torkoal
Set trick room turn 1. Bait into attacking hatterne with DG pressure, instructed on turn 2.
Once Hatterne is k.o. bring in torkoal to consecutive instructed eruptions or mawile to cleanup. Sucker punch saved for the turn trick room ends unless needed.

Thank you! It is my first week playing the game so a lot of the stuff is new to me. Most of my info I have from playing rom hacks 🤣 . I started with a perish trap team but built this by stealing components of opponents teams. I faced someone using instruct to double Clefable buffs and my brain said "double bombs 🤔 "
You're going to see value in adding protect in your mons in higher ranks/elo especially once you need to plan positions or have to stall something out and while body press is interesting coverage I'd remove it from Torkoal since it already has solar beam or remove solar beam for protect. Overall strong team but its weakness comes from being too cheesy
Thank you for advice! I will try out protect on torkoal for body Press. The only matches it is really useful for are : ttar, kanghaskan, maushold. All other meta threats that are weak to fighting can be dealt with with earth power or eruption. I still have drain punch so can just bring Gorlurk if I think I need a fighting move. Was on a 6 game winning streak since hitting master, just hit a draw agaonst an overqwil stall team 🙁 making me miss running kingambit over mawile.
6 win streak is a strong head start for sure
I can't remove all the cheese tho lol it is too fun
If you're looking to make it better you sometimes gotta play smth more predictable especially because you kinda need protect
Which you lack
Am definitely here to listen, want to see if I can keep climbing with this group. Anyone besides torkoal you'd most like to see Protect on?
is this your team you were talking about
Yessir this is the heavies squad I am trying to stick with
I'll rest for a while
I just camr home from work
I will go on my pc, copy what you sent and try to optimize, without changing the team too much
Your efforts are greatly appreciated, and I am excited to learn from the process
I will @ you once I'm on pc

i did no calcs here yet
but its a good starting point

protect is very important on mawile and rock slide deals with pokemon like chari Y
and you really do struggle against chari Y in that team
No arguments from me! Most of my losses right now come from Charizard y teams or other trick room teams or just someone really good at predicting and nullifying my trick room set with their own.
One thing I am scared if is losing solar beam for mega swampert teams
i got you covered

i got rid of the ghost type thingy to add vileplume
it has very good with sun trickroom teams
Love it! Another trick room team with vileplume kicked my ass yesterday
it doubles its speed with its ability, as long as sun is active
so it turns into 224 speed, meaning it outspeeds the fastest pokemon in the game (by nature) mega aerodactyl
with leafstorm it can easily ohko mega swampert
with sleep powder it can save your slow attacker for example mega mawile
After you is very cool aswell
& I pretty much stopped using Gorlurk in UB#1 definitely making this change right now
After You on torkoal = instant eruption
after you on hatterne/oranguru = instant trickroom
do you know how after you exactly works?
Not yet, was about to look it up
If you use it on your partner pokemon it will move right after vileplume
and bc vileplume is by nature the strongest pokemon, as long as sun is active it will pretty much go first very often
It basicially gives torkoal a 224 speed stat for this turn
So basically leading drought torkoal with Vileplume you can hit eruption first as long as no priority/fake out happens
Wow this is gona be a fun addition
SO you click eruption + after you on torkoal -> torkoal will move right after vileplume
same goes for negative priority moves like trickroom, its a very cool way to activate trickroom
After facing a venusaur sleep powder sun team I have been meaning to look into the strat. Really appreciate the help!
Youre welcome
I'm not much of a oranguru fan and me personally i would use firagiraf instead to block any priority moves, but oranguru is fun for sure
I am just enjoying the instruct engine way too much to give it up yet. Doesn't always work, but most of the time is a really fast & exciting battle
I am sure at a higher ELO it will work much less than it does now. I actually ran Firagiraf for awhile with Guru before adding Hatterene instead
do you mind joining our tournament? I think you can get some important experience there
Definitely interested
One more question. I had mostly for firagiraf, sylveon, and some stall situations. Do you think unnecessary? It only lasts 2 turns. The one stall team I faced since adding it stalled me out regardless.
It works like this
You say their team
They see your team
BUT they do not see your Ev's so they wont be able to get th calc the damage and go for plays the usually wouldnt do or would do
Its items, abilities, moves and most recently nature
Its a best-of-3
so whoever wins 2 matches out of 3 wins
It is a really balanced and fun way to learn Pokemon and actually is the official ruleset for the really big tournaments

sorry didnt see that
They had overqwil & meowstic left, just spammed acupuncture, psych up, rest, wish. In regards to the stall team
Snorlax @ Mental Herb
Ability: Thick Fat
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 32 Atk / 32 Def / 2 SpD
Brave Nature
- Rock Slide
- Superpower
- Crunch
- Protect
So I know I would probably need to find a place for protect. What would you think about this as a replacement for Incineroar? Extra insurance against Sun/Snow teams
i would use body slam, high horsepower, curse, protect
after 1 curse body slam will turn into a actually threatening move
