OK, they have skills which can be upgraded in the same way as the normal girls. Talia has troop capacity buff, which is useful once you've built out.
Quests as well, which give some loot.
And also normal levels increase. Talia increases Troop Capacity more, and research speed. Something worth priotising I think.

I have not yet - I assumed there'd be more poorly plotted text messages
