Every archive eventually reaches a threshold.
Not because history has ended.
Because what follows can no longer be preserved as prelude.
These records began before Holme possessed a name. They followed Humanity from the death of Earth, through the Doom Falcon, into the ruins of Drakmar. They remembered the fires around which strangers first gathered, the promises from which a Republic was formed, and the Founders whose lives gave those promises meaning.
They recorded how Holme was raised.
How it was taken.
How its people carried it into exile.
How they returned.
They preserved its peoples, its laws, its roads, its waters, its gardens, its institutions, and the ordinary practices through which civilization became something more enduring than stone.
Yet no archive contains everything.
Records preserve what may be known. They cannot replace the lives that created them. They cannot reproduce every argument spoken beneath the Forum, every lantern reflected upon the Four Rivers, every child taught within an Athenaeum, or every traveler who first understood Holme as home.
Nor can they reveal everything waiting beyond their final page.
The history preserved here belongs to the world before The Last Pygmalion.
It explains the civilization awaiting the opening of the chronicle. It introduces the inheritances, losses, promises, and unanswered questions that stand behind its first words.
But the events of the story have not been recorded here.
That door remains unopened.
Readers may return to these records whenever a name, institution, people, or memory calls them backward. The Archive will remain. Its roads may be walked again. Its entries may be questioned, discussed, and remembered.
But those prepared to continue must now pass beyond explanation.
Beyond this threshold, history becomes experience.
The archive has carried you to the beginning.
The chronicle must carry you farther.
THE PRE-NOVEL RECORD IS COMPLETE.
THE DOOR TO THE LAST PYGMALION NOW STANDS BEFORE YOU.
