in India, the majority of families restrict their kids to talk with the people of opposite gender. I think this creates people who really dont understand and know how to talk with others

yea it is...we cannot have best friends from opposite gender but at same time, nowadays, parents also do not allow to hang out with friends of same gender ..for example going out with female friends that my parents do not know..or even talking too much with female friends on calls..
