Feelings are the "tools" for us to survive. Scaryness for us to not get eaten for example by snakes. So is happiness, happiness is there for us to do something. And after we succeeded, we feel happiness. So is having the feeling and not actually having the success better or actually being successful and not feeling the happiness better?

  1. feelings are feedback to certain actions, following certain patterns, they aren't tools of survival as much as they are tools for evaluation, so yeah scaryness(fear) is an indicator of something being a threat to our well being, physically or psychologically

2) Happiness comes from patterns of things that is reacted to as positivity, getting a gift, validation, completing a task we chose to, but everyone gets it differently, the vast majority to follow similar patterns, and there are a smaller group who get their sources of happiness from other things that may not be as relatable

3) Success doesn't guarantee happiness, as success depending on the definition may refer to the summed completion of a major task such as acquiring a set amount of wealth for a better living,
or accomplishing a responsibility with may or may not be accompanied with the feeling of happiness, but we could agree that success "normally" and more commonly accompanies Happiness and other feelings of satisfactory and happiness

they are not independent of themselves most of the time

amberyellow-59

Hard to understand what you are asking. You're talking about fear and then saying gratification = happiness ?

amberyellow-59

I think happiness is just being content with the way your life is

@amberyellow-59 I think happiness is just being content with the way your life is
ironjester-86

Wouldn't you think being content Lies more on the neutral scale
and happiness would be more positive than neutral?

No cause if you're content it means you don't want anything to change

@amberyellow-59 No cause if you're content it means you don't want anything to change
ironjester-86

one may be content,
but not happy with their lifestyle

like those who are too content and confortable where they are and are afraid to move forward,
yet hate their lifestyle
